Tottenham Hotspur have deepened their interest in Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton as part of their ongoing squad revamp under Roberto De Zerbi. The north London side consider the England international a key target, while rumours linking them with a move for Mason Greenwood have been dismissed.
Spurs heighten their chase for Wharton
According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham have joined the competition to sign Palace’s rising star Adam Wharton. The 22-year-old has become one of the most sought-after young players in the Premier League following his impressive breakthrough over the past year. Liverpool and Manchester United have also been tracking the former Blackburn Rovers talent, but Spurs are now ready to mount a concrete effort to bring him to north London. De Zerbi is believed to be a strong admirer of Wharton’s skill set and feels his ability to dictate play from a deeper position fits perfectly with the tactical structure he aims to build at the club.
Midfield revamp remains a top agenda
Tottenham’s pursuit of Wharton forms part of a broader plan to reshape their midfield following the exit of Yves Bissouma. Reports suggest the club are open to adding up to three new midfielders before the transfer window closes as they continue to fine-tune their squad. The future of Joao Palhinha is also uncertain. Although Tottenham hold an option to make his loan move permanent, Sporting CP are also keen on bringing the Portuguese midfielder back, adding more uncertainty to the situation.
Spurs have also evaluated several ambitious alternatives. Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali and West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes have been considered internally, though both potential transfers are expected to be complicated to execute.
No move planned for Greenwood
Besides their midfield rebuild, Tottenham have previously been linked with Mason Greenwood. However, despite speculation about a possible reunion between De Zerbi and Greenwood, the Daily Mail reports that Spurs have no intention of pursuing the Marseille attacker. It has been suggested that Marseille might be open to selling Greenwood to boost their finances, with an asking price of around €50 million (£43.3 million). Nonetheless, Tottenham are not anticipated to join the race for the 24-year-old forward.
Transfer strategy turns to attainable options
Tottenham are expected to keep evaluating their midfield prospects as they look to reinforce the team for De Zerbi. Given that Tonali carries a valuation exceeding £100 million and Fernandes is attracting interest from several top European clubs, those transfers could prove difficult to finalise.
Consequently, Adam Wharton now appears to be one of the most achievable high-quality targets available to Spurs. The upcoming weeks will be crucial in determining whether Tottenham choose to turn their interest into a formal offer as their midfield rebuild continues to progress.
