digital desk- A new and bigger political battle has erupted in the country regarding the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G-7 summit held in France. Congress on Saturday made its sharpest attack so far on the Central Government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The main opposition party has alleged that the Prime Minister did not raise the very sensitive and serious issue of the killing of three Indian sailors in the US military attack strongly with the US President. Pawan Kheda, head of the media and publicity department of the Congress, put the government’s foreign policy in the dock in a press conference and said that the basic mantra of this government has become not ‘Nation First’ (country first) but only ‘PR First’ (publicity first). Pawan Kheda made very sharp comments on the atmosphere and pictures of the meeting between PM Modi and President Trump during the press conference. He claimed that during the bilateral meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sitting with his eyes lowered and curled up on the sofa. Kheda sarcastically said, “The Prime Minister was addressing Trump there as ‘Excellence’, which was really very shameful to see. On the global stage, it seemed as if a company agent was sitting in front of his boss. We have never seen a Prime Minister in such a subdued form before in the history of independent India.” The Congress leader alleged that America killed three of our innocent sailors, but due to the silence of PM Modi, Trump did not even express regret over it.

Accused of ignoring the country’s interests on the global stage, citing old Prime Ministers

Congress alleged that External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has returned after hearing rebuke from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Prime Minister Modi is happy only after hearing praise for his skin. It is very sad to see such surrender of the government of the world’s largest democracy on the global stage. Giving the example of former Prime Ministers, Pawan Khera said that the whole world was shocked by the strong and clear message that Dr. Manmohan Singh gave to America in the ‘Khobragade case’ during his tenure. It was the diplomacy of the UPA government which was successful in putting Pakistan in the ‘Grey List’ of FATF, but today PM Modi’s friend Trump is inviting Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir for an official dinner after ‘Operation Sindoor’. Referring to the year 1986, he said that when ‘Voice of America’ wanted to install a transmitter in Sri Lanka near the Indian coast, the then PM Rajiv Gandhi had strictly stopped it.

Visa suspension and siege on PoK map, advice to learn from Italian PM Meloni

Pawan Kheda claimed that when Modi and Trump sat together, three major incidents happened against India’s interests. First, the US changed the name of ‘US Indo-Pacific Command’ back to ‘US Pacific Command’. Second, the US showed the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) region as part of Pakistan in its official map and third, the US State Department suspended EB-2 and EB-5 visas for Indians in the July 2026 visa bulletin. The Congress leader said that if PM Modi did not want to learn from former leaders of his own party or from Indira Gandhi, then at least he should have learned from Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni. Meloni responded firmly to Trump’s claims by looking him in the eye, after Trump publicly said that Meloni had begged to be photographed with him. Kheda also reminded that in March, the US Army had sunk a ship named ‘IRIS Dena’ by torpedoing it, which was our guest ship, but PM Modi did not register any objection to this either. Trump’s statement that ‘America will help if India is attacked during Modi’s tenure’ makes it seem as if we are an American colony, whereas India has won many historic wars on its own.

In the bilateral meeting, PM Modi had said that the safety of sailors is important.

However, earlier in this bilateral meeting held in Evian-le-Baun, France on the sidelines of the G-7 summit, there were extensive discussions between the two countries on trade deals, defence, security relations and the West Asia crisis. During the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Trump’s leadership for restoring peace in West Asia and also raised the issue of safety of sailors. PM Modi had said in a public statement, “We have always been in favor of freedom of navigation. Millions of Indian seafarers work in the global maritime trade sector. I firmly believe that their safety is equally important. I am confident that the agreement with Iran will include strong provisions for the safety of seafarers.” But the main anger of the Congress is that while giving a public statement, PM Modi did not directly mention the death of three Indian sailors killed in the American attack nor did he ask for a direct answer from America.
