New Delhi: Matheus Cunha bagged a sublime brace to help Brazil hammer Haiti 3-0 and bag their first win in the FIFA World Cup 2026. After their 1-1 draw against Morocco in their opener last week, Carlo Ancelotti’s men bounced back to winning ways as Haiti became the first team to be eliminated from the ongoing tournament.

Cunha replaced Brentford striker Igor Thaigo in Brazil’s playing XI against Haiti and managed to find the back of the net on his World Cup debut. He opened the scoring for the Selecao in the 23rd minute before doubling his team’s lead just 13 minutes later. Vinicius Jr scored the third goal for Brazil right before the end of the first half to secure a thumping 3-0 victory.

It was a dominant first-half display from Brazil after Ancelotti publicly criticised his players following their poor show in their opener against Morocco. Brazil’s attackers responded strongly against Haiti, scoring thrice in the first half to settle the game. The win propelled Brazil to four points, levelling Morocco, who earlier beat Scotland in Group C.

Brazil opened the scoring in the 23rd minute after Vinicius produced a low shot from distance, which was saved by Haiti goalkeeper Johny Placide. However, the ball ricocheted off Cunha after Haiti defender Hannes Delcroix’s attempted clearance and ended up in the back of the net.

Cunha then produced an impressive left-foot finish to score his second goal after Vinicius laid a sumptuous ball for him. Vinicius finally managed to score during the stoppage time in the first half, when he got on the end of a brilliant delivery from Lucas Paqueta and slotted home. It was Vinicius 2nd goal in the FIFA World Cup 2026 after he scored in Brazil’s opener against Morocco last week.

Morocco beat Scotland 1-0

Earlier, Morocco beat Scotland 1-0 in their Group C clash to open their account in the FIFA World Cup 2026. Ismael Saibar scored for Morocco just 60 seconds into the game to give his side an early lead, which eventually proved enough for them to secure a victory at the Boston Stadium.
