WhatsApp’s new security feature
WhatsApp is constantly working on new features to enhance the security and privacy of its platform. After recently introducing the View Once option for photos, videos and voice messages, the company is now planning to bring a similar feature for text messages as well. Through this new update, users will be able to send messages that the receiver can read only once. Once read, the message will automatically disappear from the chat.
New security cover for private conversations
According to reports, WhatsApp is testing the View Once Text feature in the beta version of Android. This feature can be especially beneficial for users who feel the need for additional security when sharing sensitive or confidential information. This will reduce the possibility of permanent records being created in chats and private conversations will be more secure.
How will the new feature work?
According to the information, this feature has been seen in Android beta version 2.26.22.7. When a user types a text message, he will have to press and hold the send button for a few seconds instead of sending it in the normal way. After this a special menu will appear, in which the option of “Send as View Once” will be available.
By selecting this option, the sent message can be read only once. As soon as the receiver opens and reads the message and exits the chat, the message will automatically disappear. After this it will not be accessible again.
How different from Disappearing Messages?
WhatsApp already offers Disappearing Messages feature, in which messages automatically disappear after 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or 90 days. But the new View Once Text feature will provide more strict privacy than this. In this, you will get the opportunity to see the message only once and it will be deleted immediately.
It will be easy to send OTP and banking information
This feature can prove to be extremely useful in situations where users want to share passwords, OTP, banking details, login credentials or other sensitive information. No permanent record of messages can provide additional strength to data security.
Work continues on Spoiler Messages feature also
WhatsApp is not limited to just View Once Text feature. Reports suggest that the company is also working on another interesting feature called Spoiler Messages. The text sent in this feature will initially appear blurry. The receiver has to tap on the message to read it.
This feature can be especially useful for sharing confidential information, surprise messages, or sensitive content.
When will users get the new update?
At present, the official launch date of this feature has not been announced by WhatsApp. Currently it is in the development and testing stage. If the testing is successful, it can be released to beta users first. After this, it will gradually be made accessible to all users.
Platforms like Snapchat and Instagram already offer similar features. In such a situation, this step of WhatsApp is being considered an important initiative towards providing better privacy experience to the users.
