Arsenal to start Premier League title defence against promoted Coventry as 2026/27 fixtures announced

Arsenal will begin the defence of their Premier League crown against newly-promoted Coventry City on the opening night of the 2026/27 season.

After clinching their first top-flight title in more than 20 years, Mikel Arteta’s side will host Frank Lampard’s men at the Emirates Stadium on Friday, 21 August, marking the first fixture of the new campaign.

It will be a challenging return for Coventry, who are back in the Premier League after a 25-year absence. Their early schedule includes a tough away trip to Manchester City in the third round of fixtures.

Elsewhere, Hull City will welcome Manchester United in their opening game following promotion via the play-offs, while Ipswich Town face Sunderland on the first Saturday of the season.

New Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola will have an early reunion with his former club Bournemouth on 19 September. Interestingly, the Basque manager will face them once again on the final day of the season, 30 May 2027.

Boxing Day fixtures are set to return in full this year, with Lampard’s Coventry taking on Chelsea, now under the management of Xabi Alonso.

The North London derbies between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are scheduled for 5 December and 1 May. Spurs, led by Roberto De Zerbi, will be eager to improve on last season’s campaign.

Everton are set to host Liverpool at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 28 November before making the short trip across Merseyside on 30 January — just a week ahead of Iraola’s Liverpool facing Arsenal in what could be a key stretch of the season.

Manchester City, expected to appoint Enzo Maresca as Pep Guardiola’s successor, will open their season against Bournemouth on Sunday, 23 August, followed by a Manchester derby clash with United on 12 September.

At Old Trafford, Michael Carrick is now the permanent manager and could benefit from a relatively gentle start, with fixtures against newly-promoted Hull and Ipswich.

The campaign will feature 33 weekend rounds and five midweek sets of matches, though schedule changes are likely due to nine Premier League clubs competing in European tournaments.

Sky Sports and TNT Sports will continue to share television rights, with Sky broadcasting at least 215 exclusive live matches, including the Boxing Day line-up.

The new Premier League season begins just 34 days after the World Cup final in the United States and will conclude on Sunday, 30 May 2027, with the Champions League final set for six days later.
