Kannada actor Doddanna moves cyber crime police over death hoax; Investigation launched under IT Act

Veteran Kannada actor Doddanna has approached cyber crime authorities after a false social media post wrongly claimed that he had passed away.
According to the complaint, the misleading content surfaced online and was shared widely within a short span of time. It triggered concern among well-wishers who initially believed the information. The actor later clarified that the post was completely fabricated and allegedly created using digital tools, including AI-based manipulation, before being circulated further.
As reported by Money Control, following the complaint filed on June 15, Doddanna approached the North Division Cyber Crime Police Station . Police registered a case under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act. The investigation is currently focused on tracing unknown individuals responsible for creating and spreading the false information .
Doddanna raises concernDoddanna expressed strong concern over the emotional distress caused by the incident. In a video message he stated that the situation left him deeply disturbed. He also urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible for circulating such misinformation. The actor further appealed to the public to avoid sharing unverified content.
Actor issues video clarification on his healthDoddanna released a video statement confirming his well-being. In the message, he clarified the situation by saying, “Before I even woke up in the morning, some irresponsible people had posted that I had died. It is completely false. I am healthy and doing well,” while also thanking fans for their concern and support.
He further mentioned that he had received several calls from friends and well-wishers who were worried after seeing the post.
Doddanna has appeared in over 800 films and most of them were Kannada films. He made his debut in the 1981 film 'Koodi Balidare Swarga Sukha' and most recent films of him are 'Raktha Kashmira', 'Karataka Damanaka', and 'Kotigobba 3'.
