Wes Brown Says Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United Return Depends on Mutual Apologies

Legendary Manchester United and England defender Wes Brown believes that Marcus Rashford’s potential return to Old Trafford will require “apologies from both sides.”

Following a very public disagreement with former manager Ruben Amorim, Rashford, a product of United’s academy, was loaned out—first to Aston Villa and later to FC Barcelona.

The Catalan giants had the option to sign the England forward permanently for €30 million (approximately £26 million). Despite Rashford’s strong performances in Spain, Barcelona opted instead to secure Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon, leaving Rashford’s future uncertain. With just a year remaining on his United contract and Amorim now replaced by Michael Carrick, speculation has intensified regarding whether Rashford could still have a future at the club.

Brown, who previously told The Peoples Person that he wanted to see the Wythenshawe-born star back at Old Trafford, shared his thoughts in an exclusive interview with BetGoodwin, conducted the morning after Rashford scored for England against Croatia. When asked whether the 28-year-old might feature for United next season, Brown remained optimistic.

“He’s someone who could easily come back in; he’s a homegrown player,” Brown explained. “There might need to be some conversations and perhaps some sorries on both sides, but there’s no reason it can’t be resolved—especially with him being in such good form.”

He added, “We know he’s got a year left, and after that, who knows? It’s a tricky situation. Everyone expected Barcelona to take that option, but clearly, they went for Gordon instead.”

“Still, he’s our player. We haven’t forgotten what he’s capable of. It’s a difficult one, but the key thing is that there’s a new manager now, and I’m sure Michael [Carrick] would love to have him. It’s like gaining another weapon on the wing.”

The former England international continued, “I always tell people that to be the best in the Premier League, it’s not just about your starting eleven—the substitutes must be dangerous as well.”

“Whether he starts or comes off the bench, Rashford is a dangerous player to bring on. That’s the kind of depth you need if you want to challenge for the league and other major honours.”

When asked if he would personally take Rashford back were he managing United, Brown replied, “If I were Michael, yes, of course I would. But like I said, we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. If it doesn’t work out, there will definitely be other big clubs ready to make a move for him.”

Rashford made an immediate impact for England after replacing Gordon on the left wing, calmly slotting the ball past Dominik Livaković to seal victory over Croatia.

Brown commented, “I always enjoy watching the World Cup because you often discover three or four players who really stand out. Everyone plays with extra motivation, knowing the world is watching. That’s just how it goes. But to be fair, Marcus has simply continued the excellent form he showed at Barcelona.”

The second part of Wes Brown’s exclusive interview will be published tomorrow.
