Cristiano Ronaldo has once again etched his name into football’s record books with another remarkable achievement at the World Cup.
Portugal face DR Congo in their opening fixture on Wednesday.
The legendary forward is set to join his long-time rival Lionel Messi in attaining the rare feat of appearing in six separate editions of the tournament.
However, Ronaldo has surpassed Messi in another aspect by being included in Portugal’s starting eleven in Houston, making him the oldest outfield player ever to begin a World Cup match.
The Al-Nassr striker could also reach yet another historic landmark.
If he manages to score, he will become the only player in history to have found the net in six different World Cup campaigns.
