In order to avoid any mishap like paper leak, the Government of India has decided to temporarily ban the social media platform Telegram. Pavel Durov, CEO of social media platform Telegram, has now given his first reaction to this decision taken by the government. What is the matter?
Telegram was used to leak the papers of the NEET UG 2026 exam which was held earlier. There was a lot of confusion in the entire country due to the paper leak. This affected lakhs of students. The decision has been taken following a recommendation made by the National Costing Agency (NTA). Google has already removed Telegram from Play Store. Pavel Durov shared a post on X and wrote that India’s Ministry of Information Technology banned Telegram for a week after some users shared cracked exam questions. More than 15 crore ordinary Telegram users in India have been affected. Not to people who leak exam materials. And nothing has stopped because of this ban. Only these leaks will spread to other apps.

What did the National Costing Agency (NTA) say?
The NTA has said that the ban is aimed at curbing organized copying rackets and the spread of fake messages to the examination. Director General of NTA Abhishek Singh has said that we will not allow any kind of disturbance. We will certainly take appropriate steps to ensure that the exam is completed without any hurdles.
