Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly making strong efforts to secure the signing of Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, with a proposed deal worth £100 million, according to recent reports.
The 26-year-old Italian has established himself as one of the standout performers under Eddie Howe, featuring in 60 matches across club and international competitions during the 2025/26 season.
Newcastle United initially paid £55 million to bring Tonali from AC Milan in 2023. However, reports indicate that the Magpies could potentially double their investment if they decide to sell him during the upcoming transfer window.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi is said to be the driving force behind Tottenham’s pursuit of Tonali. De Zerbi, who took charge of Spurs in March following a turbulent campaign, successfully guided the team away from relegation after a difficult season in the Premier League. The former Brighton & Hove Albion boss secured 11 points from the club’s final seven matches, ensuring their survival on the last day of the season.
According to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs, Tottenham are preparing an initial bid of £85 million, with performance-related add-ons potentially raising the total fee to £100 million. Jacobs also noted that despite Tottenham’s absence from European competition next season, Tonali is open to the move, and Spurs remain a ‘serious contender’ for his signature.
It is believed that the Tottenham board has allocated substantial funds for the summer transfer window and intends to make a major signing to signal their ambition. Following consecutive 17th-place finishes in the Premier League, the club aims to rebuild under De Zerbi and challenge for higher positions in the league table.
