India enjoyed a productive second day at the Boxing World Cup Stage 2 in China as Jyoti, Prachi and Nikhil advanced in their respective categories.
Jyoti guaranteed India a medal after defeating Mongolia’s Enkh Amgalan Nomundari by RSC in the second round of the women’s 48kg event, progressing to the semifinals. Prachi delivered a dominant 5-0 unanimous decision win over USA’s Deborah Grant in the women’s 57kg division. In the men’s 55kg category, Nikhil edged past France’s Christopher Hippocrate via a 3-2 split decision.
However, Poonam, Akash and Gitimoni exited after narrow defeats. India will have five boxers in action on Day 3 as the campaign gathers momentum.
