Mitchell Marsh backs Australia to bounce back against Bangladesh in T20I series
Cricket Gully | June 17, 2026 1:39 AM CST

Australia captain Mitchell Marsh has expressed confidence ahead of the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, saying the visitors are well-equipped to recover from their recent ODI series defeat. The opening match will be played in Chattogram on June 17, followed by fixtures on June 19 and June 21.

Australia entered the T20I leg of the tour after losing the ODI series 2-1 to Bangladesh. However, Marsh believes the return of several experienced players has strengthened the squad considerably. Among those rejoining the side are Tim David and all-rounder Aaron Hardie, while Marsh himself returns after missing the ODI contests due to injury recovery.

Speaking before the series opener, Marsh highlighted the importance of experienced additions to a squad that has undergone significant personnel changes. He also pointed to the enthusiasm within the group as Australia prepares for a different challenge in the shortest format.

Tim David Return Boosts Visitors

Marsh reserved special praise for Tim David, calling the Singapore-born batter one of the leading middle-order players in T20 cricket. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Marsh said,

"Absolutely. I think anytime you welcome, in my opinion, one of the best middle-order players in the world into your team - experienced and really confident in his ability - it's a huge boost. We welcome him back into our side and he's really valuable to us. So it's great to have him back."

He added,

"We've got a big changeover in personnel. The guys are really looking forward to this series. No doubt it's been a tough tour, but we're going in with high hopes of winning this series and playing some really good cricket."

Australia Wary of Bangladesh Challenge

Marsh also acknowledged Bangladesh's progress, particularly in fast bowling. The hosts' pace attack played a major role in securing their first-ever ODI series victory over Australia in Dhaka. Marsh stated,

"We've got some experienced guys coming back, no doubt. We've also got fresh faces and some young players who will provide great energy, and we're looking forward to the challenge of playing against Bangladesh."

He concluded,

"They're a well-rounded side. They've been playing some really good cricket of late, and that will provide us with a great challenge - one that we'll be up for."
