Ethan Ampadu has revealed that securing Leeds United’s Premier League survival was the club’s standout moment of the season, ranking it even higher than their memorable 2-1 triumph over Manchester United in April at Old Trafford — a victory sealed by a Noah Okafor double that ended a league drought dating back to 1981. Under Daniel Farke, Leeds finished 14th in the Premier League, eight points clear of the relegation zone despite suffering a defeat to West Ham on the final day.
Speaking to LUTV, Ampadu said, “Definitely the game against Man United. I think not just for the players playing and the staff involved but as a club as a whole, to have not won there in the league for 40-something years, I could see how much that meant to people and to hear that was the stand out moment for a lot of people around the city was amazing.”
He added, “But I think definitely that moment at the end of the season where we were all together watching the result that kept us in the Premier League. That was definitely the stand out moment for us all.”
Leeds mathematically confirmed their top-flight safety with three matches remaining on Sunday, May 10, when Arsenal defeated relegation-threatened West Ham 1-0.
Reflecting on that evening, Ampadu said, “That was our target at the start of the season, to stay in the Premier League, and obviously that was the moment where it was fully done. So it was definitely a good evening to enjoy with everyone.”
