Afghanistan's decision to use DRS on Mohammed Siraj became a talking point in their solitary Test against India. On Day 2 they burnt a review on the same as there was clear lack of contact between bat and ball.
During the 120th over of the Indian innings, when Afghan spinner Nangeyalia Kharote came round the wicket for the same Siraj he slogged across the line. A few close in fielders had convinced themselves they heard a faint noise and went up for a caught behind.
Hashmatullah Shahidi had no doubt over that and referred it upstairs. But with a significant gap between bat and ball the third umpire barely had to break a sweat in ruling Siraj not out. Afghanistan had to pay the price for losing their only review almost immediately as Siraj responded with a six and then followed it with boundaries on the next three balls of the same over by Kharote.

Fielding mistakes a concern for Afghanistan
The DRS decision against Siraj was not the first that the Afghan unit did not cover itself with glory with. Earlier in the Test they missed out on two clear caught behinds in successive matches on KL Rahul. Rahul took advantage of the same and completed a century.
Then they again failed to get the benefit of DRS on two occasions before lunch. Gill and Pant were both handed a lifeline on consecutive deliveries, and Afghanistan once again failed to review.
It had been a disappointing display of fielding as India were all over Afghanistan and their mistakes did not help the cause. Winning the toss, the hosts put on 564/8 in 127 overs with their debutant fast bowler Mohammad Saleem taking six wickets for 140.
The hosts lost Yashasvi Jaiswal on 24, and Rahul alongside Sai Sudharsan continued from there with a 139-run partnership. Sudharsan completed a fifty in 45 balls and went on to make 81 off 104 balls including 13 boundaries. Rahul scored his hundred off 165 deliveries laced with 11 fours.
Skipper Gill remained on song with a superb 126 ball 177 which had 15 fours and a six. Rishabh Pant too got among the runs and made 81 off 121 balls striking six boundaries and three sixes. Lower down the order Washington Sundar was the last man standing at 52 not out with the help of six boundaries. Debutant Manav Suthar too scored in the 20s along with Mohammed Siraj.
Apart from Saleem's figures of 6/140 Ziaur Rahman and captain Hashmatullah Shahidi chipped in with a wicket each. It was the two dropped catches though, that made sure Afghanistan had to field for a significant part of Day 2.
