England head coach Thomas Tuchel has provided reassurance to fans that captain Harry Kane is in excellent physical condition ahead of the upcoming World Cup. Despite the challenging North American temperatures expected to rise above 35 degrees Celsius, the German manager has confirmed that his star forward is in peak form—fit, agile, and completely prepared to lead England’s attack.

Tuchel downplays weather concerns

Initially, England’s coaching team had some reservations about whether the intense June heat in Florida could affect Kane’s performance levels. However, the 32-year-old striker has put those fears to rest by setting the tone in high-intensity defensive pressing drills at the training camp in West Palm Beach. Kane joins the squad following an exceptional season with Bayern Munich, during which he scored a staggering 61 goals.

Manager confident in his captain

Tuchel highlighted that Kane’s condition and professionalism have been outstanding during the early training sessions. Expressing full confidence in his key attacker, Tuchel said: “He’s in top shape. He is ready to go. We don’t have to be worried about him at all, even if it is hot in June. He has shown me throughout the week that he’s ready. He’s our key player.

“He looks lean, he looks sharp, and he trains at the highest standard. We had a defensive training session today, and he was the one driving the intensity. He’s so accustomed to the high pressing style at Bayern Munich and their aggressive play in the opponent’s half. He’s leading by example. I believe he’s in the best shape possible.”

Attack plans taking shape

Tuchel also outlined his rotation strategy for the upcoming friendly fixtures, confirming that Kane will play for 45 minutes this weekend, with other forwards set to share the workload.

Explaining his tactical approach, Tuchel said: “Everyone will get 45 minutes to maintain continuity through the week. We’ll aim to keep Harry fit and play him as often as possible, but ideally, we won’t need him for every full game of 90 or 120 minutes. However, if the game is close—can we really afford to take off our main goal threat? Perhaps not.”

The England manager also clarified the attacking pecking order, noting that Ollie Watkins is currently the second-choice striker behind Kane, while Ivan Toney adds further strength from the bench. Tuchel elaborated: “I think Oli is the one we’d start in place of Harry if we decide Kane shouldn’t begin a match. He can sustain the pressing intensity, which is his big strength. Ivan, on the other hand, is more of a finisher for us.

“Sometimes it’s about diverting attention from Harry, and Ivan can do that. He’s excellent inside the box, a reliable penalty taker, and trains at a very high level. I’m really pleased with him. He’s proven we were right to include him. He has a fantastic attitude. We have good options, but Harry, of course, remains our main man up front.”

Countdown begins with New Zealand friendly

England’s preparations continue with a warm-up clash in Tampa, where they’ll look to snap a two-match winless streak against a New Zealand team that has historically found it difficult against European opponents.

The team’s momentum will build further on Sunday when a group of Premier League champions from Arsenal joins the squad. After a subsequent friendly against Costa Rica, England will move to Kansas City before launching their Group L campaign against Croatia in Dallas on June 17.
