Car: The country’s roads are witnessing a lineup of exceptional vehicles that are truly unrivaled. If you are planning to buy a car, it is worth considering your options carefully before making a purchase. Did you know that the Innova is considered the most popular MPV in the market? It outsells even smaller MPVs like the Carens and many SUVs.
It is not exactly an inexpensive vehicle, however. Competition is set to intensify in the coming months, which could impact its sales. Here are three upcoming competitors to the Innova that are worth keeping an eye on.
You might be surprised to learn that Maruti already has a vehicle capable of challenging the Innova—the Invicto. You have likely heard of it, though it did not quite capture the public’s fancy. Consequently, Maruti is now working on another 7-seater MPV, and this time, it will be an electric vehicle. Codenamed ‘YMC’, it will be built on the e-Heartect platform, which is also used for the Maruti e-Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser e-Bella.
This implies that the YMC will share most of its components with the e-Vitara. Additionally, the YMC is expected to be offered with two powertrain options: 49kWh and 61kWh. In terms of features, it may come equipped with Level-2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, ventilated front seats, 7 airbags, and much more.
Meet the MG Darion
A significant portion of Innova’s sales is driven by its hybrid powertrain. MG recognizes the potential of the hybrid MPV segment and is expected to bring the Wuling Darion to India. It is slated to launch with two powertrain options: a PHEV and an EV. Additionally, the Darion might feature a 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid engine capable of delivering an impressive range of around 1,000 km.
MG typically equips its models with a wide range of features, and the Darion is likely to follow suit. It is expected to come with a 12.8-inch infotainment screen, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, Level-2 ADAS, and various other features.
During the Sierra’s launch event, Tata showcased a glimpse of a 7-seater vehicle based on the new ARGOS platform. Since Tata already has a 7-seater SUV in its lineup, this new model appears poised to compete with the Innova.
