Three standout performers from Arsenal’s triumphant Premier League season — Declan Rice, Gabriel, and David Raya — have been named on the shortlist for the Professional Footballers’ Association’s (PFA) Men’s Player of the Year award.
The trio played key roles in Arsenal’s title-winning campaign. Midfielder Declan Rice was widely praised for his relentless energy and precision in set-piece play. Goalkeeper David Raya secured the Premier League Golden Glove award after keeping 19 clean sheets, while Brazilian defender Gabriel impressed with his defensive strength and threat during set pieces.
Joining them on the shortlist is Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, who topped the league’s scoring charts with 27 goals, and Rayan Cherki, whose arrival last summer has transformed the attacking play for the Blues.
Manchester United’s creative midfielder Bruno Fernandes has also earned a nomination after recording a record-breaking 21 assists, playing a central role in his team’s return to the UEFA Champions League.
Declan Rice’s nomination alongside teammates David Raya and Gabriel further highlights Arsenal’s dominant season, which saw the north London club reclaim their place among England’s elite.
In the women’s category, the shortlist for the PFA Women’s Player of the Year award features talents reflective of Manchester City’s Women’s Super League (WSL) success, with Yui Hasegawa and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw both nominated.
Shaw, the prolific Jamaican forward, scored 21 goals to help Manchester City clinch both the WSL title and the FA Cup, while Japan international Hasegawa was a vital presence in their midfield structure.
Arsenal and England forward Alessia Russo, who finished just behind Shaw in the scoring tally with 13 goals, has also been included in the shortlist.
Completing the six-player lineup are Aston Villa’s Kirsty Hanson, who netted 12 goals, along with England internationals Lauren James of Chelsea and Jess Park from Manchester United.
The winners of both the men’s and women’s PFA Player of the Year awards will be revealed at the annual ceremony scheduled to take place at the Manchester Opera House on Tuesday, 25 August. The event will also feature the presentation of the Young Player of the Year awards, covering the Premier League, the English Football League (EFL), the WSL, and WSL2 divisions.
