Real Madrid are entering a defining phase in their modern history as club members get ready to vote in the presidential elections that will decide who leads the institution for the next four years.

Following several weeks of campaigning, public appearances, and ambitious declarations, the contest between Florentino Perez and Enrique Riquelme is nearing its climax.

What started as a standard electoral process has turned into a high-profile race that has captivated Madridistas across Spain and around the world.

Discussions have ranged from sporting strategies to potential marquee signings, making the debate over Real Madrid’s future direction one of the most talked-about topics in recent weeks.

In the upcoming election, current president Florentino Perez will attempt to secure another term, while his challenger Enrique Riquelme seeks to bring a fresh perspective to the Santiago Bernabéu.

Perez enters the polls with a strong legacy. Under his leadership, Real Madrid have achieved exceptional success both on and off the pitch, including the completion of major infrastructure projects—most notably the remarkable redevelopment of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

In recent days, Perez’s campaign has also received public support from several club icons such as Gareth Bale, Roberto Carlos, Luka Modric, and Karim Benzema.

On the opposing side, Riquelme has based his campaign on the promise of renewal and transformation.

He has outlined a project that involves legendary former players and has repeatedly emphasised the need to revive what he considers the traditional Real Madrid identity within the club’s hierarchy.

Riquelme’s campaign has also drawn attention with suggestions of major signings, including names like Erling Haaland, while proposing a different sporting roadmap for the years ahead.

With both candidates presenting sharply contrasting visions, the final decision lies entirely with the club’s members.

Regardless of the outcome, the results will have a significant impact on the club’s sporting ambitions and institutional direction.

If Perez wins, it would signal continuity, extending the successful project that has defined Real Madrid’s dominance over the past two decades.

However, a Riquelme victory would mark the beginning of a new era, introducing substantial changes to the club’s leadership structure and possibly reshaping its sporting strategy for the foreseeable future.

Florentino Perez remains the frontrunner to win the election, according to most observers.

Voting is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 7 June 2026.

Members will be able to cast their votes between 9:00 am and 8:00 pm without interruption.

The polling centre will be located at the Real Madrid Basketball Pavilion in Valdebebas, on Avenida Alejandro de la Sota. Reports suggest that around 70,000 members are eligible to vote.

To participate in the election, three key requirements must be met. Voters must be registered members of Real Madrid and of legal age, hold at least one full year of membership, and be listed on the official electoral roll.

By the end of the day, Real Madrid will know whether Florentino Perez will continue his presidency or if Enrique Riquelme has successfully persuaded members that a new direction is needed.

Whichever way it goes, this election is set to mark a pivotal chapter in the club’s storied history.
