Israel-Lebanon Ceasefire: Israel and Lebanon agreed on Tuesday to extend the ceasefire agreement. This agreement between the two countries was made after the fourth round of talks mediated by America. This agreement is being considered an important step towards reducing the long-running tension in the region.

This ceasefire has also happened at a time when Trump had scolded Netanyahu on the phone a few days ago and told him that because of his actions the whole world hates him. Trump believed that the actions being taken through Netanyahu were isolating him and hindering peace talks with Iran.

What did Trump say?

Trump had told Netanyahu, “You are fu***** crazy. If it weren’t for me, you would be in jail. I am saving your life. Now everyone hates you. Because of this, everyone hates Israel too.” At the same time, according to another source, Trump was very angry during the phone call and at one point he shouted, “What the hell are you doing?” In such a situation, it is believed that Netanyahu has taken this step due to continuous pressure from America.

What was the agreement between Israel and Lebanon?

  • Under the agreement, several experimental safety zones will be established in Lebanon. These areas will be kept under special security arrangements and the presence of Hezbollah fighters here will be completely banned.
  • According to the agreement, Hezbollah will have to stop firing completely.
  • Along with this, withdrawal of Israeli personnel and weapons will be ensured from all areas south of the Litani River.
  • The responsibility of these security areas will be completely in the hands of the Lebanese Army.
  • All decisions and control to security arrangements will remain with the army.
  • Also, there will be a strict ban on any type of activity of Hezbollah in these areas.

What did the US State Department say?

In a joint statement issued after the talks at the US State Department, both sides said that this agreement is an important progress towards a comprehensive peace and security arrangement. The statement expressed hope that this would strengthen regional stability.

The joint statement also made it clear that the future relations between Israel and Lebanon will be decided only by the governments of the two countries. Attempts by any external state or non-state organization to influence the future of Lebanon are rejected. Analysts believe that this comment indirectly points towards Iran, which is considered a major supporter of Hezbollah.

Was Hezbollah involved in this conversation?

It is noteworthy that Hezbollah was not involved in this negotiation process. At present, the detailed plan for implementing security zones has not been made public. However, it has been made clear that it will be the responsibility of the Lebanese Army to ensure law and order and security in these areas.

This conversation held under American mediation is being considered an important initiative towards reducing the tension that has been going on for the last several months. However, regional affairs experts say that the success of this agreement will largely depend on the future role of Hezbollah and Iran’s stance.
