According to a detailed analysis by BettingLounge’s supercomputer, Kylian Mbappé could make history by becoming the first player ever to secure the Golden Boot in consecutive FIFA World Cup tournaments.

The simulation engine ran 10,000 virtual tournaments, factoring in each team’s projected progress at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as well as individual player performance based on their club and international form.

In nearly 25% of the simulations, Mbappé finished as the top scorer, with an expected goals (xG) tally of 6.85 — slightly below the eight goals he netted when leading France to the final in Qatar in 2022. Should the French star claim the Golden Boot again in 2026, he would become the first player in World Cup history to win the honour in back-to-back editions.

Close behind him is Harry Kane, who scored an impressive 61 goals for Bayern Munich during the 2025/26 season. The England captain has been given a 17.2% probability of winning the Golden Boot in 2026. Kane previously earned the award in 2018 when England advanced to the third-place playoff, scoring six goals during that campaign.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are predicted to have 11.5% and 9.5% chances respectively of taking home the top scorer’s medal. Both legends rank ahead of several other attacking stars, including Norway’s Erling Haaland, who is projected to score 4.45 goals across the tournament.

With bookmakers widely backing Spain as favourites to lift the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy, it’s no shock that Lamine Yamal completes the top five list. The Spanish prodigy has an 8% chance of winning the Golden Boot and will mark his 20th birthday just days before the final on 19 July at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

England’s Bukayo Saka narrowly misses the top ten. Following his Premier League triumph with Arsenal, the supercomputer expects the 24-year-old winger to record an xG of 2.95 during the tournament, giving him a modest 1.5% chance of clinching the Golden Boot title.
