Harry Kane remains optimistic about his chances of clinching the 2026 Ballon d'Or, even though he failed to lift the UEFA Champions League trophy this season.
The Bayern Munich forward continues to prove that age is merely a number.
Since joining the Bavarian club in the summer of 2023, the England international striker has displayed an exceptional level of sharpness in front of goal.
Now 32 years old, Kane has shown no signs of slowing down in terms of performance.
The peak of Kane’s scoring prowess came during the 2025–2026 season.
He managed to score an impressive 61 goals across just 51 appearances in all competitions.
Thanks to his remarkable goal tally, Bayern Munich successfully secured both the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal titles.
However, Kane’s outstanding record was not enough to steer Bayern to European triumph.
The team’s journey in the Champions League ended in the semifinals after being eliminated on aggregate by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), who went on to lift the trophy.
Despite that setback, Kane remains confident about his chances of winning the 2026 Ballon d'Or.
He believes there is still one major path that could lead him to the top individual honour.
The former Tottenham Hotspur striker sees the 2026 FIFA World Cup — set to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 — as his best opportunity.
Kane is convinced that his chances of claiming the Ballon d'Or will be significantly boosted if he can lead the England national team to victory in the tournament.
“If we win the World Cup, I will definitely be one of the favourites for the Ballon d'Or,” Kane said, as quoted by Standard.
“With the titles and goals I’ve achieved, I’ll be in contention,” the former Spurs star added.
The road ahead for Kane, however, will not be easy.
The 2026 World Cup is expected to be the decisive stage in determining who truly deserves to take home the golden ball trophy.
Kane will face fierce competition from several other top players who have also enjoyed superb seasons, including Declan Rice, Michael Olise, Lamine Yamal, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and the reigning holder, Ousmane Dembele.
Historically, the World Cup has often played a crucial role in deciding the world’s best player award.
Out of the last seven Ballon d'Or editions held during World Cup years, four have been won by players from the tournament’s victorious team.
Those winners were Zinedine Zidane (1998), Ronaldo Nazario (2002), Fabio Cannavaro (2006), and Lionel Messi (2022).
