New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing tension in West Asia (Middle East), US President Donald Trump has given very positive indications regarding the peace agreement with Iran. In a special conversation with ABC News, Trump claimed that negotiations between the two countries are progressing at a very fast pace and there is every possibility that this historic agreement will be finalized by next week. Trump made it clear that immediately after this agreement, the strategically important ‘Strait of Hormuz’ will be completely opened for trade.
This agreement will be bigger than military victory
Describing this diplomatic effort as very important, President Trump said that this deal with Iran will prove to be much better and more effective than any major military victory. He emphasized that his administration is working keeping in mind the larger global and regional interests, hence the scale of decisions and efforts should also be of the same level. Trump also expressed confidence on social media and said that everything will be fine in the end.
Lebanon crisis becomes a big obstacle
The biggest hurdle in the talks is the Israeli attack on Lebanon and the expansion of the military campaign there, due to which Iran is extremely angry. The Iranian leadership believes that the Lebanese front should also be included in the US-Iran ceasefire. Donald Trump himself took command to break this deadlock.
Trump talked to Netanyahu
Trump said that he has spoken directly to high representatives of Hezbollah and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to Trump, he has asked both sides to immediately stop firing and bombing. After which an agreement has been reached to avoid possible major attacks on Beirut and stop the conflict.
Diplomatic exercise to restore ceasefire
In the last 48 hours, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also tried to strengthen the ceasefire by holding separate talks with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli PM Netanyahu. Under the proposed plan, Hezbollah will have to completely stop rocket and drone attacks on Israel.
Whereas Israel will avoid further military expansion in Lebanon. This diplomatic peace is being tested again and again by sporadic retaliatory attacks on the ground. But the Trump administration hopes that a permanent solution to this regional dispute will be found in the next few days.
