Love Island presenter Maya Jama has spoken publicly for the first time about her much-discussed separation from Manchester City defender Ruben Dias, putting an end to weeks of speculation. The television host broke her silence after rumours circulated about the conclusion of their 18-month relationship, which reportedly ended in April.
Maya Jama opens up
Addressing her relationship publicly for the first time, Maya Jama shared her perspective on love and privacy. Responding to an ongoing podcast conversation about her personal life, the 31-year-old explained her approach to relationships in the spotlight.
She wrote, “The truth is, even when I’ve tried to keep my relationships private, we still end up being photographed. I’m an all or nothing kind of girl — I don’t do casual dating. So yes, I’ll love openly or not at all, and if it ends, it ends. I decided a long time ago not to let public opinion dictate my personal decisions.”
The TV star, who recently returned to screens for the latest series of Love Island, also hinted at a new beginning by sharing a video of herself singing about 'changes'.
The relationship reportedly began in November 2024, with the couple going public in April the following year. Their split marks the end of a romance that had drawn considerable media attention.
Ruben Dias denies cheating claims
While Jama has focused on moving forward, Ruben Dias has taken a firmer stance against persistent tabloid rumours regarding their breakup. The Manchester City centre-back spoke out after allegations of infidelity began affecting his family.
In a detailed statement, Dias said, “When my 85-year-old grandfather starts asking me if I’ve cheated on my girlfriend because he’s seen it all over the news, that’s the point where I have to draw the line on what’s acceptable.”
He continued, “Maya and I always had a relationship founded on mutual respect. There was never any crossing of boundaries.”
Speculation over social media activity
Despite his denial, reports have continued to circulate about Dias’ online behaviour during the final months of the relationship. It has been suggested that the footballer engaged in a so-called 'toe-dipping' strategy — a pattern of following and quickly unfollowing influencers to gauge potential interest.
Sources have linked Dias to interactions with model Catarina Duraes and another woman named Claire between late 2025 and early 2026, although no evidence has surfaced suggesting actual infidelity.
Dias dismissed these reports as “clickbait,” asserting that breakups do not always stem from betrayal. He stated, “I’ve usually chosen to stay silent about my private life because it’s mine alone. But I can’t stand by when false stories are spread just for clicks.”
Looking ahead to World Cup duties
As his personal matters settle, Ruben Dias is turning his focus back to football, preparing to represent Portugal at the 2026 World Cup. Portugal’s group stage will feature matches against DR Congo, Uzbekistan, and Colombia.
The defender is now determined to shift attention from his personal life and lead his country’s defence as they aim for global success this summer.
