Jay Idzes Confirmed to Miss the Matches

Indonesia will be without their captain, Jay Idzes, for both FIFA Matchday fixtures.

The defender, who plays for Sassuolo, has chosen to focus on recovering from an injury after the conclusion of the 2025/2026 Serie A season.

This decision was made as a precautionary measure to ensure a full recovery before returning to competitive play.

Through his personal social media account, Jay expressed his disappointment at not being able to join the Garuda squad.

He admitted that the decision was not easy, given his strong desire to always represent the Indonesia national team.

Jay hopes his recovery process goes smoothly so he can soon return to strengthen the Red and White in future international competitions.

Despite his absence, according to BanjarmasinPost.co.id, the 25-year-old player continues to offer his full support to his teammates who will face Oman and Mozambique.

“It’s sad not to be able to join the team this time. But sometimes, the best decision is to step back for a moment as a precaution,” said Jay Idzes as quoted by BolaSport.com from his Instagram account.

Jay Idzes’ Absence Could Be Covered by Squad Depth

Jay Idzes’ absence poses a challenge for head coach John Herdman, but Indonesia still has several quality options in defence.

Players such as Justin Hubner, Rizky Ridho, and Elkan Baggott are potential replacements for the captain’s position.

The team’s defensive depth has become one of Indonesia’s key strengths, so Jay Idzes’ absence is not expected to significantly disrupt the team’s preparations.

Head-to-Head Record: Indonesia vs Oman

Throughout history, Indonesia and Oman have faced each other six times.

From those six encounters, according to Kompas.com, Indonesia recorded two wins, one draw, and three losses.

The last three defeats came in the modern era, namely:

  • Indonesia 0-1 Oman (2007)
  • Indonesia 1-2 Oman (2010)
  • Indonesia 1-3 Oman (2021)

Therefore, the upcoming match at SUGBK will be an opportunity for Indonesia to break their negative trend against the West Asian side.

FIFA Rankings: Indonesia and Oman

In terms of FIFA rankings, Oman currently sits above Indonesia.

At present, Oman ranks 79th in the world, while Indonesia is placed 122nd.

However, the conditions of both teams are considered quite different from a few years ago.

Indonesia now boasts several players competing in European leagues, including Kevin Diks, Calvin Verdonk, and Emil Audero.

Meanwhile, most of Oman’s players are active in their domestic league.

One key player to watch from Oman is Muhsen Al Ghassani, a striker for Bangkok United who also happens to be a teammate of Pratama Arhan in the Thai League.

Oman has also included forward Issam Al Sabhi and defender Khalid Al-Braiki, who currently plays for a second-division club in the Czech Republic.

With the current squad composition, Indonesia has a strong chance to deliver a competitive performance and aim for valuable FIFA ranking points in front of their home fans.
