Manchester United Women narrowly missed out on a place in European competition after finishing in fourth position this season.
They also ended as runners-up once again to Chelsea at the World Sevens tournament held in London over the weekend.
The Red Devils had earlier suffered defeat to the Blues in their first-ever League Cup final in March.
With the summer transfer window approaching, manager Marc Skinner will be keen to strengthen his squad. Reports suggest that United have already reached an agreement to sign Spanish defender Andrea Medina.
However, there are worrying rumours that United might be willing to part ways with striker Elisabeth Terland during this window.
Adding to the concerns, fresh reports indicate that the club could also lose their French forward, Melvine Malard, this summer — a prospect that will undoubtedly unsettle the fans.
Malard was outstanding in the recent World Sevens tournament, where she netted six goals in total.
Her performances during the regular season were equally impressive, contributing six goals in the league and four in the Champions League, including a crucial strike in the quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich.
Sky Sports journalist Anton Toloui has revealed that “Manchester United face a battle to keep hold of Melvine Malard this summer.”
He further added that “two bids from NWSL clubs have already come in” for the 25-year-old forward.
What makes the situation more concerning for United is that Malard “is about to enter the final year of her contract and is also attracting interest from teams competing in the Champions League.”
Since joining Manchester United in 2023, Malard has been one of the team’s most dynamic and dependable attacking players. Supporters will be hoping the club can persuade her that her future remains bright at the Progress with Unity Stadium.
