Reports from Serie A reveal that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has opposed the recruitment of Ralf Rangnick and is pushing for the involvement of Ramon Planes and Arne Slot, alongside Rafaela Pimenta, in AC Milan’s restructuring plans.
Although the AC Milan management has undergone a complete overhaul, internal disagreements remain among those still in the club’s hierarchy.
According to circulating reports, Ibrahimovic believes he holds the key to reshaping AC Milan according to his vision.
Currently, his preferred structure involves Arne Slot as head coach and Ramon Planes as sporting director.
A crucial figure in this equation is Rafaela Pimenta, the renowned super agent and successor to Mino Raiola, who represented Ibrahimovic for many years.
Ibrahimovic shares a close relationship with Pimenta, who is said to be the one promoting the path leading to Planes and Slot.
The alternative plan reportedly involves Ralf Rangnick and Oliver Glasner as technical director and head coach, respectively.
Glasner is expected to meet with the Rossoneri soon, while Matthias Jaissle, another Rangnick protégé currently under contract with Al-Ahli, may complicate matters due to compensation demands.
AC Ibra
Arne Slot’s popularity surged over the weekend when his departure from Liverpool was officially confirmed.
The Dutch manager is now ready to take on a new professional challenge in a different football environment—Italian football.
Ibrahimovic is confident that Milan must move away from Massimiliano Allegri’s tactical management and instead appoint an internationally recognized coach with experience in both the Eredivisie and Premier League.
Pimenta played a significant role three years ago when Slot nearly joined Tottenham Hotspur following Antonio Conte’s departure.
However, history took a different route, leading Slot to replace Jurgen Klopp and win the league in his first season.
Rangnick, meanwhile, is expected to arrive at AC Milan as a special delegate with expanded authority, accompanied by a coach handpicked by him—someone like Glasner, whom he previously worked with at Red Bull.
The World Cup is less than ten days away, and Rangnick is expected to provide a definitive answer to Austria regarding his plans soon.
The former Manchester United and RB Leipzig coach will meet with federation officials in the coming days before departing for the United States. However, the fact that his focus will initially be on Austria rather than Milan may work against him.
Glasner, who recently led Crystal Palace to a UEFA Conference League title, is considered ready to start immediately. His name has also drawn interest from Bayer Leverkusen, who are exploring potential opportunities.
AC Milan Turns to Arne Slot After Sacking Massimiliano Allegri
Following his dismissal by Liverpool on Saturday, Arne Slot quickly emerged as one of the key candidates to replace Allegri at AC Milan.
The coming week is expected to be crucial for Milan’s decision-making regarding the club’s future direction.
One thing is certain—AC Milan will meet with Oliver Glasner and Ralf Rangnick, the current frontrunners for the head coach and technical director roles.
Glasner, who has just secured the Conference League title with Crystal Palace and three trophies in the past year, represents a strong candidate should Rangnick take charge of the project.
A meeting between Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Massimo Calvelli, and Glasner is scheduled for Tuesday to discuss plans and understand the coach’s intentions.
Financial matters, including salary and contract terms, will also be on the agenda.
Matthias Jaissle from Al-Ahli remains a possible option, but his €10 million net salary could be a stumbling block, especially since the Saudi club is reluctant to release the 38-year-old German coach.
The path toward Mauricio Pochettino also appears complicated.
Slot’s Surprise Move
In the coming hours, Rangnick and the Austrian federation are expected to meet to discuss Milan’s interest.
The Austrian head coach will soon leave for the World Cup, where his team’s final group-stage match will be held on June 28, meaning his availability will be limited for at least a month.
Ibrahimovic himself is set to travel to the United States to work as a television commentator, creating a temporary leadership gap within Milan’s management structure.
This has created a race against time to finalise the club’s new management setup.
Just yesterday, Liverpool dismissed a coach who was immediately linked to the Milan job.
French media have reported contact between Ibrahimovic and the former Feyenoord manager, with whom he shared success in winning a league title, to replace Massimiliano Allegri.
Slot finished fifth last season—identical to Milan’s position—after a disappointing campaign for Liverpool that was marred by internal disputes, including reported tensions with Mohamed Salah and other key players.
The Reds had invested heavily in the summer transfer window but failed to defend their league title or progress beyond the Champions League quarter-finals.
That disappointment has led Slot to seek a new challenge, possibly abroad.
However, his salary remains a significant factor—he reportedly earned €8 million net per season plus bonuses at Liverpool.
Beyond financial terms, Slot wants to understand Milan’s new project under Ibrahimovic and Gerry Cardinale before committing to a new adventure.
Rafael Leao Not Alone as Several AC Milan Stars Plan to Leave
A major exodus could take place at Milan next season following their failure to qualify for the Champions League and ongoing management turmoil.
The first player to publicly express his desire to leave is Rafael Leao. After seven years, the Portuguese forward admitted he is looking for a change of scenery and exploring opportunities in other leagues.
His comments were seen as a farewell message after a difficult season that included strained relations with fans.
Leao has faced heavy criticism over recent months and has become a symbol of the club’s disappointing campaign.
Club owner Gerry Cardinale was reportedly the first to place him on the transfer list after learning of his desire to move on. Leao later added fuel to the fire with outspoken remarks.
While the winger is eyeing a move abroad, Milan expect to receive at least €50 million from his sale. Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are currently leading the chase, both offering net salaries of around €10 million per year.
However, Leao prefers a move to the Premier League, with the World Cup serving as a potential stage to attract English clubs’ attention. A move to Saudi Arabia appears unlikely, while interest persists from Spanish clubs, including Barcelona.
Other Players Eye Exits
Leao is not the only one considering departure. Luka Modric’s future also remains uncertain. The Croatian midfielder is reportedly disappointed with how the season ended and is weighing his options.
His contract expires at the end of June, and while he would have stayed under Allegri, the current situation leaves him without Champions League football, a manager who wanted him, and sporting director Igli Tare, who had personally requested his signing.
Ibrahimovic is said to be trying to convince Modric to stay, but the veteran remains hesitant.
Adrien Rabiot may also be on his way out after just one season. Unlike Modric, the French midfielder remains under contract, and Milan will demand at least €15 million for his transfer. Reports suggest he could reunite with Allegri at Napoli.
Goalkeeper Mike Maignan’s situation is also uncertain. He renewed his contract believing it marked the start of a new era under Allegri. Both Allegri and sporting director Tare had persuaded the Frenchman to stay, but with the current turmoil, Maignan is now exploring options elsewhere.
Leaving will not be easy, as Maignan’s long-term contract includes a substantial salary of around €5 million net per year. Meanwhile, the club is preparing to evaluate offers for several other players considered surplus to requirements, as Milan aim to balance the books after two seasons without Champions League revenue.
In short, there is plenty of work ahead at Casa Milan, especially once the new management structure is finally in place.
