Former Sriwijaya FC President Dr. H. Hendri Zainuddin, M.A. reaffirmed his unwavering support for the Brazilian national team as his favorite to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“Since we were young, back in 1986, Brazil has always been our favorite team, and that hasn’t changed. Unless it’s the final and we have to choose between two teams, we’ll see then. But from the start, our support has always been with Brazil,” said Dr. H. Hendri Zainuddin, M.A. on Tuesday (2 June 2026).

The 1986 FIFA World Cup was the 13th edition of the tournament, held in Mexico from 31 May to 29 June 1986. Argentina won the championship after defeating West Germany 3-2 in the final, a tournament forever remembered for Diego Maradona’s golden era.

“The first time we watched the 1986 World Cup and saw Brazil play, it was incredible. Their football was beautiful, full of Samba flair. Brazil’s game has always been above average, and they’ve proven their dominance globally. They’ve won the World Cup three times, and they’ve never missed a tournament — unlike Italy, who have now missed two editions,” Hendri explained.

Hendri Zainuddin also mentioned one of Brazil’s key stars ready for action — Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, better known as Neymar Jr., who plays as a forward or winger.

He reiterated, “When we first watched the 1986 World Cup and saw Brazil in action, we were amazed. Their attractive, Samba-style play stood out. Brazil’s performance has always been top-tier, and they’ve dominated the global stage, winning the World Cup three times. Plus, they’ve never missed a tournament, unlike Italy, who have failed to qualify twice.”

Brazil is regarded as one of the leading favorites for the 2026 World Cup due to its deadly mix of world-class young talent, squad depth, and the tactical expertise of coach Carlo Ancelotti, who blends attacking flair (jogo bonito) with defensive discipline.

Several major reasons why Hendri backs Brazil for the 2026 World Cup include:

Star-Studded European Line-Up: Strengthened by elite talents such as Vinícius Jr., Raphinha, Gabriel Martinelli, and emerging prodigy Endrick, Brazil’s attack is both fast and lethal.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Tactical Influence: The presence of Carlo Ancelotti as head coach introduces tactical discipline and a winning European mentality, providing the perfect complement to Brazil’s trademark attacking style.

Neymar’s Experience Factor: The leadership and tournament experience of veteran Neymar add determination and composure to Brazil’s youthful squad during crucial stages of competition.

Winning Tradition and Record: As the record-holder with five World Cup titles — the most in history — Brazil’s winning mentality is deeply ingrained in the DNA of the Seleção in every major tournament.
