Amid the ongoing turmoil within the Trinamool Congress (TMC) after the defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, party supremo Mamata Banerjee has made serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Coming live on social media on Monday, Mamata Banerjee said that the police is threatening TMC MLAs to leave the party. Accusing the BJP of conspiring to break Trinamool, he said, “No matter how much force you use, Trinamool cannot be broken.”
After the election results are out, the growing discord within Trinamool is clearly visible. 60 MLAs were absent from an important meeting called by the MLAs, giving rise to speculations of infighting in the party. Meanwhile, as per her earlier announcement, Mamata Banerjee used social media as a medium to express her views instead of press conference. He directly said that the police is intimidating Trinamool Congress MLAs. They are also being asked to break the party and contact so and so person. He asked whether this is an example of democracy? He revealed that four MLAs told him that they were being intimidated, and threatened with arrest by the ED and CBI.
TMC expelled two MLAs from the party
Amid fears of a split in the party, Trinamool expelled two MLAs, Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha, from the party. Mamata Banerjee repeated these allegations and said, do you want to break Trinamool Congress? He warned that no matter how hard we try, Trinamool Congress will become stronger. He said, remember, Trinamool cannot be weakened by giving money or threatening some MLAs and MPs. He firmly said that you can force whatever you want, Trinamool cannot be broken and the people of Bengal cannot be bowed down. He also appealed to the student community as to why they are not protesting against injustice when they are the backbone of the society.
Mamata Banerjee accused BJP of election rigging
Continuing her complaints, Mamata Banerjee said that her workers are not being allowed to take out processions, nor are they being allowed to hold meetings, nor are they being allowed to come out of their homes. He alleged that 2,500 Trinamool party offices have been demolished and workers are being killed. He directly said that BJP has targeted Bengal and defeated it. Alleging election rigging, he said, “I know how you rigged 177 seats.” He gave the example of Rajarhat seat, where his candidate Tapas had won, but was forced to lose in the name of recounting the next day. He refused to accept this victory.
Referring to the attack on Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata Banerjee said that the people who attacked Abhishek in Sonarpur were brought from outside, there were not many local people there. He said that those who had gone to save Abhishek were arrested. Citing video recording, he said that if Abhishek had not worn a helmet, he would have been killed on the spot due to the way the stones were thrown. Mamata Banerjee also quoted Derek O’Brien as saying that three scans were ordered on the advice of doctors to check Abhishek’s internal injuries, but no OPD service was provided. He raised questions on this incident and said whether this means that people will be refused medical treatment? Will any hospital refuse to admit a member of the opposition? What kind of monarchy is this?
