CBSE Re-evaluation: CBSE has commenced the re-evaluation process today. This time, over 400,000 students have requested copies of more than 1.1 million answer sheets. Meanwhile, the Board’s portal crashed once again today.

Following the release of the CBSE Class 12 Board Examination 2026 results, numerous questions have been raised nationwide regarding the evaluation process. A large number of students have expressed objections regarding their marks and have requested copies of their answer sheets. Amidst this, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is initiating the process for re-evaluation and answer sheet verification starting today. Board statistics indicate that this year, over 400,000 students have applied to view their answer sheets, with requests recorded for a total of more than 1.1 million answer sheets.

However, while the answer sheet verification process was scheduled to begin on the CBSE portal today, the website is currently displaying a message stating that maintenance work is underway and the portal will be available shortly.

Record Number of Applications Received

According to CBSE, 404,319 students applied this year to obtain copies of their evaluated answer sheets. These students requested a total of 1,131,961 answer sheets. The Board has, so far, made approximately 898,000 answer sheets available through digital channels. This figure is considered significantly higher compared to previous years, reflecting the growing concerns among students.

Questions Raised Over the OSM System

This year, CBSE utilized the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for the evaluation of answer sheets. Under this system, examiners evaluate scanned copies of the answer sheets on a digital platform. While the Board asserts that this has made the evaluation process faster and more transparent, many students raised questions regarding this system following the announcement of the results. Several students claimed that they received marks significantly lower than what they had expected. Meanwhile, some students alleged that certain answers in their answer sheets had not been evaluated, or that there were technical glitches in the scanned copies. Several screenshots and complaints regarding these issues also went viral on social media, bringing the matter into the spotlight.

CBSE Introduces Major Changes by Offering Fee Relief

Following complaints from students and parents, the CBSE has revised the fees for its post-result services. Students can now obtain a scanned copy of their answer sheets by paying ₹100 per subject. A fee of ₹100 per subject has also been fixed for the verification of marks. Furthermore, for re-evaluation, fees will be charged on a per-question basis. The Board states that the objective behind this fee reduction is to provide relief to students and offer them an opportunity to properly scrutinize their answer sheets.

Who Can Apply for Re-evaluation?

Students who are dissatisfied with their marks can first download a scanned copy of their answer sheets. Subsequently, they can carefully review the evaluated answers and the mark-totaling process. If they discover that a specific question has not been evaluated, or if an error in the allocation of marks is apparent, students may apply for verification and re-evaluation.

The CBSE has clarified that following re-evaluation, a student’s marks may either increase, decrease, or remain unchanged. The marks issued after the re-evaluation process will be considered final.

The Debate Over Transparency Continues

Despite the commencement of the re-evaluation process, the debate surrounding the OSM (On-Screen Marking) system shows no signs of subsiding. Student organizations, parents, and education experts continue to demand greater transparency in the evaluation process. Many observers believe that digital evaluation represents the future of education; however, they emphasize that addressing existing technical and administrative shortcomings is essential to ensure its complete effectiveness.
