The Mexico national football team has officially announced its 26-player roster for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The announcement was made through the team’s official Instagram account on Monday, 1 June 2026.
Head coach Javier Aguirre has selected a balanced mix of experienced veterans and young talents with the aim of delivering a strong performance in front of home fans.
One of the biggest highlights is the inclusion of veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.
The 40-year-old shot-stopper is on the verge of creating history as the first Mexican player to appear in six different World Cup tournaments.
Ochoa’s vast experience continues to be considered an essential asset to Aguirre’s squad for this year’s competition.
In addition to Ochoa, Mexico will also rely on senior figures such as Edson Alvarez, Raul Jimenez, and Santiago Gimenez. These players are expected to play key roles for El Tri in navigating the challenging group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
Aguirre has also included several promising young players in the squad.
Gilberto Mora has drawn attention as he could become the youngest Mexican player ever to feature in a World Cup.
Meanwhile, Obed Vargas and Brian Gutierrez have earned their spots after impressive performances with their respective clubs.
In the 2026 World Cup, Mexico has been placed in Group A alongside South Africa, South Korea, and the Czech Republic.
As co-hosts, Mexico will open their World Cup campaign against South Africa at the iconic Estadio Azteca on 11 June.
Before the tournament kicks off, El Tri will play one final warm-up match against Serbia to fine-tune their preparations.
