Chandigarh: Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several road infrastructure and development projects worth over ₹18.76 crore in Lehragaga area. This has given a big boost to rural connectivity and strengthened the local economy. These projects aim to eliminate security threats, improve rural infrastructure and ensure all-weather connectivity for thousands of villagers.
CM Mann brought light to the villages
Highlighting the vision of the Punjab government led by CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the government is transforming rural Punjab by proactively strengthening about 40,000 km of roads across the state. This is providing better connectivity and basic facilities to villages which were neglected for decades.
Addressing a public meeting in village Daska, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema inaugurated the 10.5 km long road. This road connects Bachuana to Bareta via Daska and Bahadurpur. This road has been widened from 12 feet to 18 feet at a cost of ₹7.15 crore. The widening of the road is expected to solve the chronic traffic problems and safety concerns that the narrow and dilapidated road previously posed.

The Finance Minister also inaugurated a new 4 km long metalled road connecting Daska and Khatri Wala. The construction of this road has cost ₹1.27 crore. Due to its construction, an old unpaved road has now been transformed into an all-weather paved road. Additionally, a 1 km long link road leading to Dera Baba Dhaula Pir on the Daska-Bahadurpur stretch was completed at a cost of ₹34.50 lakh, making travel easier for devotees and local residents.
Extending the scope of development works to Bagrol and nearby villages, Harpal Singh Cheema dedicated the development works and laid the foundation stone of projects worth about ₹10 crore. In the presence of village sarpanches, panchayat members and local residents, he announced the construction of a 3 km long road from Bagrol to Bujrak, which will cost ₹1.10 crore; Also announced the construction of a 2.35 km long road connecting Bagrol to Burj Tilla and Khedi Ngaiyaan, which will cost more than ₹1 crore.
He further informed that ₹1.16 crore has been spent on the construction of the 2.75 km long road connecting Bagrol and Ballamgarh. One of the major initiatives taken in this area is the paving of about 12 kilometers of kutcha roads, which were being neglected for the last 70 to 80 years. These roads are being converted into a metalled network at a cost of ₹5.25 crore, which will significantly improve connectivity and accessibility in the area.

The Finance Minister also dedicated a newly constructed bridge, which has strengthened the transport links between the two major villages, further improving connectivity in the region.
Highlighting the ongoing infrastructure works, Harpal Singh Cheema said, “About 4 km long road from Bagrol to Khedi Dagaian, including village Phirni, is currently being constructed at a cost of ₹1.83 crore. Also, work is underway to widen the roads connecting Bagrol to Kangrodi and Kamalpur, which will be estimated to cost ₹4.50 crore.”
In total, the ongoing construction and expansion works cover approximately 19 kilometers of roads around the Bagrol area, and are expected to solve transportation challenges that have hampered agricultural activities and economic mobility for generations. Reiterating the commitment of the Bhagwant Mann government towards balanced development, Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said, “The Bhagwant Mann government is giving priority to rural development to bridge the gap between urban and rural infrastructure. While the rural road network has been neglected for decades, the government considers providing quality infrastructure to every village as an essential priority.”
A large number of local residents, administrative officials, community leaders and Panchayat representatives attended the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremonies and welcomed these projects; These projects are expected to ease daily commute, strengthen the transportation network and provide a significant boost to the rural economy.
