In today’s era, breakdown of marriage has become a common thing, where many people break their relationship and get divorced due to mutual anger, rivalry and ego. Marriage is a bond which is not only a relationship between two individuals but also a bond between two families. Love and relationships between families also get affected due to divorce. Hindu religion believes that marriage is not only a social tradition but also a religious duty. Therefore, married people should try to maintain this bond. There are many such teachings given in Hindu scriptures, by adopting which marital life can be made happy and strong.
In Hindu religion, marriage is not considered a relationship of just one birth, but a bond of birth after birth. There are many teachings found in scriptures like Vedas, Bhagavad Gita and Ramayana, which a couple must adopt in their life so that their relationship remains strong. Now the question arises that what are the teachings given in the scriptures, through which broken relationships can be saved.
Special advice regarding marriage in religious scriptures
1. Do your duty
It is told in Atharvaveda that marriage is not just a bond of love but also a religion. The husband and wife who follow their duties towards each other also follow religion. Therefore a person should fulfill his duties towards his spouse. For example, in difficult situations, the wife should support her husband and the husband should also support his wife. This makes the relationship stronger.
2. Respect your spouse
It is mentioned in Manusmriti that husband and wife should respect each other. With this, both are able to understand each other’s thoughts better. It is said in the famous verse of Manusmriti, ‘Yatra Naryastu Pujyante, Ramante Tatra Devta.’
The meaning of this verse is that in the house where women are respected, the gods reside there. Similarly, in a house where husband and wife respect each other, there are less disputes and peace and happiness prevails.
3. Support your spouse in every situation
The husband should support his wife in every situation and the wife should also support her husband. Just as Mother Sita supported Lord Ram in Ramayana. When Lord Ram left the palace and went to exile, Mother Sita also accompanied him and supported him in every difficulty. Every person should adopt this education in his life.
4. Control your ego
According to the Upanishads, people should control their ego so that they can understand themselves as well as others. A person immersed in ego loves only himself and cannot understand the feelings of others. In such a situation, the distance in relationships increases and there may be a possibility of breaking the relationship. Therefore, to make married life successful, it is considered necessary to give up ego.
