Target changed after huge increase in bookings: Target of 15,000 units every month
According to the managing director of Tata Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, the company currently supplies around 10,000 electric vehicles every month. Now to meet the market demand, the target has been set to increase it to about 15,000 units every month. This plan to expand production capacity has been prepared after the huge increase in EV bookings in the last 2 months. The demand for Nexon EV, Punch EV and recently launched models included in Tata’s portfolio has increased rapidly in cities.
Rising crude oil prices and rising running costs became the reason
Changing behavior of customers and global conditions have emerged as the biggest reasons behind this decision to increase production. The ongoing geopolitical conflict in West Asia and the resulting uncertainty over global crude oil prices have forced Indian buyers to think. After the recent changes in the prices of conventional fuels (petrol-diesel) in India, people are now deeply evaluating the long-term running cost of vehicles.

Impact on general public and what will happen next?
The increase in production by Tata Motors will have a direct impact on the availability of vehicles at showrooms. Currently, Tata’s popular electric cars have a waiting period ranging from a few weeks to months depending on the variant. With this 50% increase in production, customers will be able to get delivery of the vehicle sooner after booking. Additionally, with the increasing coverage of charging infrastructure and extremely low running costs compared to petrol and diesel, the adoption of EVs will further increase in metro cities like Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune as well as in tier-II cities.
