Kolkata, 31 May. Former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee expressed displeasure over the attack on her MP nephew Abhishek Banerjee and accused BJP and DCP of threatening the hospital. Mamta also claimed that if anything happens to Abhishek, the hospital will be responsible.
Due to pressure from BJP the hospital sent Abhishek home
Mamata Banerjee, while talking to the media late on Saturday night, said that Abhishek Banerjee was admitted to the ITU of the hospital. There his 3D CT scan, USG and thoracic test were done. He said that amid the huge pressure being created on the hospital, Abhishek has been sent home and now he will be treated at home. The former CM said, ‘Abhishek has been sent home. Now his treatment will continue at home. Our family doctor will monitor the entire treatment.
Allegations of security lapse and murder of democracy
Mamta Banerjee raised questions on hospital administration and law and order. He asked that if Abhishek’s condition was not serious then why was he kept in ITU? And if he was serious then why was he released now under pressure? He called it a major security lapse.
The TMC chief said, ‘There are blood clots in his (Abhishek Banerjee) body. If he had not worn a helmet, Abhishek would have died on the spot. Now Abhishek’s house will remain like a hospital. Oxygen cylinders and other important equipment will be kept there. If anything happens to Abhishek, these hospital people will be responsible for it.
Mamta termed this entire situation as murder of democracy. He also said that this government has not changed, but it has been changed forcibly. Targeting the local leaders of Bengal, he said that the BJP leaders of Delhi are not as bad as the leaders of Bengal. He also described CID as coward.
Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav expressed concern
Mamta Banerjee said that many big leaders of the country have called to inquire about the well-being of Abhishek and expressed their concern. He said, ‘Rahul Gandhi had called and offered help. He also suggested that Abhishek could be taken to Hyderabad for treatment. Apart from this, Kapil Sibal and Akhilesh Yadav are also very worried about Abhishek.
Akhilesh said – BJP cannot do anything except violent politics
In the same sequence, Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav said, ‘By carrying out a fatal attack on Abhishek Banerjee, a big leader of Trinamool Congress in Bengal, the anarchist BJP government of the state has proved that the BJP cannot do anything other than hateful, negative and violent politics. The absence of police protection even in such a sensitive environment points towards a bigger conspiracy, which is highly condemnable!
BJP’s politics of revenge by not providing adequate police security – Kharge
On the other hand, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said, ‘I strongly condemn the shocking attack on MP Abhishek Banerjee in Sonapur, when he had gone to meet the families affected by the post-poll violence in the state. Deliberately not providing adequate police protection to a major opposition leader speaks volumes about BJP’s vendetta politics and harassment. The West Bengal government and the Central government should ensure the security of all opposition leaders and take immediate steps to stop such attacks. Political differences can never justify any kind of violence.
Outsiders were gathered in Sonarpur, TMC will protest
Referring to Abhishek Banerjee’s visit to Sonarpur, Mamata Banerjee said that the police had already been informed about this visit. The crowd gathered there were all outsiders. He alleged that BJP is today intimidating doctors, hospitals and all communities.
Mamta herself will sit on strike against dictatorship on Monday
Meanwhile, TMC workers have opened a front against this attack on Abhishek Banerjee. TMC workers will start protests across the state from Sunday itself. At the same time, as per the scheduled program, Mamata Banerjee herself will sit on a dharna on Monday at Rani Rasmani Road in Kolkata against this security lapse and dictatorship.
