- Big announcement of ‘this’ government
West Bengal Government : of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made several big announcements on Tuesday (May 26, 2026). On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that the state government will start accepting applications for the Annapurna Yojana from May 27, under which women will be given Rs 3,000 per month. The official also said that liquor shops will not be allowed to open within one kilometer of schools, colleges and places of worship.
3,000 will be deposited in women’s account
Speaking to reporters after an administrative meeting at Kalyani in Nadia district, the official said, “Annapurna Yojana applications will be issued by the state secretariat from tomorrow. All Indian citizens are eligible to get benefits under this scheme.” The chief minister added, “The process of our Annapurna Yojana is starting from tomorrow. The transfer of Rs 3,000 will start as soon as the application is filled.”

A fish and rice meal for just Rs.5
The Chief Minister also said that his government has decided to provide fish and rice meals twice a week at a subsidized rate of Rs 5 in 400 special canteens across Bengal. He said that the West Bengal government would also set up an AYUSH department separate from the health department.
This declaration is considered important in the background of upcoming political and social schemes, which are said to be aimed at providing economic support to women and providing affordable food for common people. Especially women from economically weaker sections can benefit from this scheme.
According to this proposal, financial assistance can be deposited directly into the bank account of eligible women. On the other hand, the plan to provide fish-rice meal at a low price has created interest among the citizens as it is linked to the food culture of West Bengal. There is a lot of discussion about this announcement in the political circles and it is considered as an important decision in view of the upcoming elections. However, a clear picture of the scheme will emerge only after the implementation, eligibility criteria and official details come out.
