Barcelona have reached an agreement with Newcastle United to secure the signing of winger Anthony Gordon during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The future of Gordon at the North East club had been uncertain for some time, with manager Eddie Howe frequently facing questions about the player’s dedication to the team. Now, it appears that Gordon is set to make the switch to La Liga for the next season.

According to Sky Sports News, both clubs have agreed on a transfer worth £70 million plus bonuses, despite strong interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Negotiations advanced significantly on Wednesday when Barcelona’s offer met Newcastle’s valuation, and discussions focused on structuring the payments, with the Spanish club preferring to spread them out over time.

Although Gordon ended the season as Newcastle’s top scorer, reports indicate that he is keen on the move to Spain. The winger is currently under a long-term contract with Newcastle, with four years remaining on his existing deal.

Despite his strong form, Gordon did not feature in any of Newcastle’s last four matches of the season, as rumours about a potential summer departure intensified.

From a financial standpoint, Newcastle’s CEO David Hopkinson had previously acknowledged that the club might need to sell certain players in order to reinvest during the summer transfer window.

Earlier this month, Gordon was named in Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man World Cup squad, and he is reportedly eager to have his club future settled before heading to the tournament.

Since joining Newcastle from Everton in January 2023 for an initial fee of £40 million, Gordon has made 152 appearances for the club.
