President Murmu presented Padma awards, 66 personalities got the honor in the first phase

New Delhi, 25 May. President Draupadi Murmu presented the prestigious Padma awards for the year 2026 to personalities from various fields including arts, literature, medicine, science and sports during a ceremony held at the Republic Pavilion of Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday evening.

2 Padma Vibhushan, 6 Padma Bhushan and 58 Padma Shri awards

It is noteworthy that the Central Government had announced the names of 131 Padma Award winners on January 25 this year. Of these, a total of five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 personalities are to be honored with Padma Shri. However, on Monday, President Murmu honored 66 personalities of the country in the first phase, which includes two Padma Vibhushan, six Padma Bhushan and 58 Padma Shri. Another 65 winners will be honored in the second phase.

19 women and 16 posthumously honored

Interestingly, 19 women are among the recipients of the Padma Award this year. At the same time, 16 celebrities are to be honored posthumously. Padma Vibhushan winners include late actor Dharmendra, former Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan, former Supreme Court judge KT Thomas and renowned violinist N. Five celebrities including Rajam are included.

Dharmendra received Padma Vibhushan posthumously, Hema Malini received the award

President Draupadi Murmu posthumously awarded Padma Vibhushan to evergreen actor Dharmendra. His actress wife and sitting BJP MP from Mathura Hema Malini received the award. Apart from Dharmendra, N. Rajam was also decorated with Padma Vibhushan.

These celebrities including Koshyari and Uday Kotak were awarded Padma Bhushan.

Among the Padma Bhushan winners honored today include former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Uday Kotak, Shatavdhani Dr. R Ganesh, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Dr. Kallitti Ramasamy Palaniswami and Piyush Pandey (posthumously).

Padma Shri awarded to more than 50 celebrities including women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet

At the same time, more than 50 personalities including women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, actor Prosenjit Chatterjee, Vishwabandhu (posthumously), Bharat Singh Bharti, Taga Ram Bhil, Ratilal Borisagar and para athlete Praveen Kumar were honored with Padma Shri.

Many stalwarts including PM Modi were present in the program

Many senior leaders and dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were present at the ceremony.

Vishwa Bandhu’s family from Bihar expressed happiness

Indu Devi, wife of Bihar’s Vishwa Bandhu (posthumously), who was awarded the Padma Shri, said that she thanked the government wholeheartedly for recognizing her work. He said that the entire family is feeling proud of this honor and they have tears of joy in their eyes.
