The central government on Monday said there is no shortage of fertilizers in the country and the supply remains stable and above normal levels. Also said that at present about 51 percent stock of the annual requirement is available in the country.

Aparna S., Additional Secretary, Department of Fertilizers, under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. Sharma said that in the current year, 390.54 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizers will be required in the country. At the same time, the current stock level of fertilizers is 200.12 lakh metric tonnes, which is much higher than the benchmark of 33 percent.

Sharma said domestic production and imports have remained strong since the onset of the Middle East crisis, which has supported the availability of fertilizers.

He said the total domestic production has been around 95 lakh metric tonnes, while imports of around 22.60 lakh metric tonnes have further strengthened the supply. Due to this, the availability of fertilizers has increased by 117.6 lakh metric tons.

The Additional Secretary informed that the country has secured adequate quantities of key fertilizers, including 13.5 lakh MT of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) and 9 lakh MT of complex fertilizers like Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium (NPK), thereby ensuring adequate availability for the upcoming Kharif season.

The availability of raw materials required for fertilizer production also remains satisfactory and is being regularly reviewed by the Department.

The government said that domestic production of urea stood at 57.66 lakh metric tonnes, while import was 13.60 lakh metric tonnes. Production of DAP stood at 7.93 lakh metric tonnes, while imports stood at 0.88 lakh metric tonnes.

Domestic production of NPK stood at 18.71 lakh metric tonnes and import was 4.44 lakh metric tonnes.

Additionally, Single Super Phosphate (SSP) production stood at 10.70 lakh MT with no imports, while Potassium Chloride or Muriate of Potash (MOP) was completely import dependent with 3.68 lakh MT imported and no domestic production.
