Kolkata Police visit Abhishek Banerjee's home

Kolkata: A team of Kolkata Police personnel, mostly in civil dress, visited the residence of Trinamool Congress national general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee on Monday afternoon. The team was later seen leaving the premises carrying a desktop computer monitor. Heavy police deployment was seen outside Abhishek's residence.

The removal of the monitor was part of the security equipment that had earlier been provided to Abhishek, sources said. However, police remained tight-lipped about the exact nature of the visit to Abhishek's residence known as 'Shantiniketan'.

The surprise visit by Kolkata Police came amid a reduction in security deployment outside Abhishek's residence.


The new state administration led by chief minister Suvendu Adhikari has removed the elaborate security arrangements outside Abhishek's residence, including perimeter barricades, smart guardrail systems, and a dedicated bomb disposal squad post. These measures had restricted public access to the neighbourhood for years, claimed the new BJP government.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation recently issued notices to 17 properties, some allegedly associated with Abhishek, regarding alleged building violations.
