Next-Generation Hyundai Creta Spied With Pleos Screen

Hyundai is working on the third-generation Creta. Camouflaged test mules have been potted recently, giving us a fair picture of what to expect. Being a full generational update, the new Creta will have a fresh exterior and interior design and major revisions in the feature list. The latest spy shots indicate that the new Creta will come with Hyundai’s new Pleos Connect system. The large central display for this can be seen in the spy video.

The video, shared by Automatta, shows a camouflaged mule waiting in a line of vehicles, near a turn. Look closely and you will see its steering wheel and the central screen. The outgoing Creta comes with 10.25-inch displays for infotainment and instrumentation.

It was in early May this year that Hyundai unveiled the Pleos Connect officially. The Grandeur sedan will be the first model to use it internationally. The latest sighting confirms that the Creta would get it too. The Pleos Connect system uses a large touchscreen and a slim driver’s display. Look carefully and you will also see the driver’s display in the video.

The Grandeur sedan will get a 17-inch touchscreen. The actual size of the Creta’s Pleos touchscreen remains unclear. It, however, looks quite large in the video. Intuitiveness and simplicity remain the core philosophies of the Pleos Connect system. Hyundai sees it as a smarter and safer way to interact with vehicle technologies- reducing distraction and improving accessibility. The UI (User Interface) has been designed accordingly.

The central screen integrates several vehicle functions and organizes them in a neat and safe way. The screen’s interface is divided into three core sections: a Driving information screen, an App Screen and a Bottom Bar.

The Driving Information Screen shows driving- data, including a 3D 360-degree surround view. Think of it as the instrument cluster. It shows engine speed, vehicle speed, range and other information that we used to find on the Creta’s regular instrument cluster previously. It also shows ADAS- information.

The App Screen is for displaying music (media), navigation, and other application- data. It supports both single-screen and split-screen layouts. The Bottom Bar gives easy and quick access to recent and pinned applications.

The Pleos Connect also comes with a dedicated App Market and the Pleos Playground. These can be used to create custom applications and integrate them within the main interface. In the initial phase, applications like YouTube, Spotify, essential and genie will be made available.

The driver’s display, the slim screen that we talked about earlier in this story, will show just essential information like speed, media, and turn-by-turn directions. The Pleos Connect system doesn’t make a complete transition to digital or screen-based controls. Physical controls and buttons will be there on models including the Creta. These will be seen below the main screen and on the steering wheel. Furthermore, the Pleos screen will also support three-finger gestures.

The third-generation Creta will be underpinned by the K3 platform, shared with the second-generation Kia Seltos. This will bring about an increase in overall dimensions and improve safety. The new Creta will also transition into a more advanced software-defined vehicle (SDV). OTA updates will be able to do even powertrain tuning and tweak suspension settings! We may see the addition of more features on the new-generation model.

At launch, the new Creta is likely to come with the same engine and transmission options as before- 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5L diesel and 1.5L turbocharged petrol- offered with manual and automatic transmissions. A newly-developed 1.5L hybrid powertrain could join the lineup later. This could bring regenerative braking and smarter energy management to the table.
