It was just a couple of days ago that Vinfast revealed the new-generation VF8 globally. We have now learnt that this electric SUV will be brought to India in the near future. Vinfast has already filed a patent for the all-new VF8 in India.
A patent filing alone doesn’t promise a market launch. Automakers often file patents to protect Intellectual Property (IP). Our sources have, however, confirmed that the VF8 will be brought to India, although they did not specify a timeline for the same. When launched, it will be positioned above the VF7 in the company’s e-SUV lineup.

The VF8 was first launched in late 2022. It has been less than four years since its market entry, and this is the first major overhaul to this model. The extensive revisions in it make us believe it to be the next-generation rather than a mere mid-life update. Changes on the new model span design, interior layout, software architecture and core mechanical systems. The carmaker will start accepting orders in Vietnam from May 27th and deliveries could commence from July this year.
The design sees a complete overhaul on the new VF8. It is base on the ‘Tech Fluid’ philosophy. This design language focusses on blending digital elements seamlessly with physical design. Notably, it is significantly sharper and more aggressive than the previous VF8’s design.
VinFast’s signature wing-shaped LED DRLs are retained. A wide gloss Black element can also be seen on the front fascia. The bumper has large air channels. You will see a rising window line and sharper surfacing along the sides. The rear design is cleaner than before and has V-shaped connected LED tail lamps.
In dimensions, the VF8 measures 4,701 mm in length, 1,872 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,840 mm and rides on 19-inch wheels. The ground clearance stands at 170 mm.
The interior has undergone a significant transformation. The dashboard has a 12.9-inch touchscreen. Most vehicle functions are integrated into this. Other features include a digital instrument cluster, steering column-mounted gear selector, voice assistant, dual-zone climate control, air purification system, powered front seats with memory function, reclining rear seats with 60:40 split layout, 360-degree camera, ADAS, eight-speaker audio system and more.
The new generation of VF8 adopts a software-defined vehicle (SDV) architecture. The company has developed its own control software and central computing systems for this. SDV functions are now anchored by a new Central Vehicle Computer. This setup is claimed to deliver faster response times and smoother vehicle control.

The new VF8 has a front-mounted electric motor that makes 228hp and 330Nm. Powering it is a 60.13 kWh battery pack, with a claimed NEDC range of up to 500 km per charge. Interestingly, the battery size and range have both decreased on the new model. The previous generation VF8 used to come with a 87.7kWh battery promising 562km in range.
This battery comes with fast charging abilities and can be charged from 10 to 70 percent in under 30 minutes. Three driving modes (Eco, Normal, and Sport) are also offered on the vehicle.
The new-generation Vinfast VF8 also gets an integrated thermal management system. It monitors and simultaneously manages the temperature of the battery, motor, and cabin. The goal is to improve both efficiency and long-term reliability. This is expected to be very useful in hot countries like India. The update also gives the VF8 frequency selective dampers. This will likely bring about major improvements in the overall ride comfort and handling.
