Chief Election Commissioner of Election Commission of India Gyanesh Kumar on Saturday reached Uttarkashi in the border district of Uttarakhand to take stock of the polling booths and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) works. This visit of the Chief Election Commissioner is being considered important in order to know the ground reality of the electoral systems in the remote and sensitive areas adjacent to the India-China border and to review the special intensive revision campaign.

The Chief Election Commissioner conducted an on-site inspection of the polling booth established in Harshil, a border village adjacent to the India-China border. He had a detailed conversation with the BLO and took information about mapping of SIR etc.

The Chief Election Commissioner appreciated BLO Mintu Devi for her excellent work and giving detailed information about the SIR. After this he left for Gangotri Dham. After reaching Gangotri Dham, the Chief Election Commissioner will perform special puja. After this he will hold a review meeting with the officials regarding the SIR.

Earlier, when the Chief Election Commissioner reached Jhala Helipad located in the border area, Chief Electoral Officer Uttarakhand Dr. BVRC Purushottam, ADM Mukta Mishra and administrative officials welcomed him by presenting him a sapling.

After this, Gyanesh Kumar along with the officials reached Harsil area adjacent to the India-China border. This visit of the Chief Election Commissioner is being considered important towards further strengthening the democratic system in the border areas. Due to the activeness of the Election Commission in remote and border areas, enthusiasm is also being seen among the local people.

Let us tell you that Harshil is a very beautiful and peaceful mountain village situated on the banks of Bhagirathi river in Uttarkashi district. The village is famous as “Mini Switzerland” because of its apple orchards, pine forests and snow-capped mountains.
