Brighton vs Manchester United: Key Talking Points as the Season Wraps Up

Manchester United have endured a tough run of results against Brighton in recent times.

Although the Red Devils managed to secure a 4-2 victory at Old Trafford earlier this season, thanks to a brace from Bryan Mbeumo, their struggles against the Seagulls have been evident.

That success was quickly overshadowed when United were knocked out of the FA Cup by Brighton at the same venue in January.

In fact, United have lost seven of their last ten encounters with the south coast side, who have had the upper hand in recent meetings.

However, United did end the 2024 Premier League campaign with a win under Erik ten Hag and will be eager to repeat that feat as they close out this season.

Carlos Baleba

Manchester United have been linked with a number of midfielders this summer, but Brighton’s Carlos Baleba continues to be a consistent name on their radar.

The Red Devils reportedly made an offer for the Cameroonian midfielder last year but were put off by Brighton’s valuation.

Although Baleba has not enjoyed his best season, United’s interest in him remains strong. This upcoming fixture could provide the youngster with a valuable opportunity to impress and make a case for replacing Casemiro, who is expected to leave the club.

Brighton’s Champions League Ambition

Manchester United will aim to spoil the celebrations at the Amex Stadium on Sunday.

Brighton, currently seventh in the Premier League table, are pushing to secure a place in European competition next season.

With Aston Villa winning the Europa League, it’s possible that a sixth-place finish could now grant access to the UEFA Champions League. Should Brighton defeat United and Bournemouth drop points, the Seagulls would leapfrog the Cherries into sixth and potentially earn a spot in Europe’s elite competition.

Bruno Fernandes’ Record Chase

Bruno Fernandes equalled the Premier League record of 20 assists last weekend during United’s win over Nottingham Forest.

The Portuguese captain now has one more game to surpass Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne and claim the record outright.

His teammates will undoubtedly be eager to convert one of his trademark passes on Sunday to help him achieve the milestone he has been striving for.
