Delhi government has taken a big decision regarding ration card. Now more families will be able to take advantage of the government ration scheme. Earlier the annual income limit for making a ration card was ₹ 1 lakh, which was increased to ₹ 1.20 lakh in January. Now the government is going to increase it to ₹2.50 lakh annually. This is going to provide relief to lakhs of families.
Lakhs of families benefit from the new income limit
After this decision of Delhi Government, now middle class and needy families will also be able to apply for ration card. Minister Rekha Gupta said that this proposal has been discussed in the cabinet meeting and it is expected to be approved in the next meeting. As soon as the new income limit is implemented, a large number of people will be able to take advantage of cheap ration.
Process for new ration card started after 13 years
New ration cards were not issued in Delhi for the last 13 years. Now the government has started the online application process on the ‘e-District’ portal from May 15. People can get a new ration card made sitting at home and can also add the name of a new family member. With this, people will not have to visit government offices.
Government’s big action against fake and ineligible people
The audit conducted by the government revealed lakhs of fake and ineligible beneficiaries. Investigation revealed that many people were taking ration despite earning more than the income limit. Some people had not taken ration for a year, while the names of many dead people were also recorded in the records. The government has started the work of cleaning the system by removing all such names.
Now 7.72 lakh new people will get ration card
After the removal of names of fake beneficiaries, now ration cards will be issued to about 7.72 lakh new eligible people. Applications pending for the last several years will also be accepted again. The government has said that all eligible families can reapply under the new rules. This will directly benefit the poor and needy people.
Documents required for application and new verification system
Now mere self-declaration will not be enough to get a ration card made. While applying, it will be necessary to provide residence certificate, new income certificate and Aadhar card of all the family members. To stop corruption, the government has implemented a three-level investigation process. First the documents will be verified online, then if necessary, verification will be done at home. Finally the District Committee will give final approval and the ration card will be issued in digital form.
