Arsenal Midfielder Fabio Vieira Unlikely to Stay Despite Ongoing Contract, Reports Suggest

The Arsenal midfielder has delivered a strong season but could be on his way out of the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Over recent seasons, Arsenal have focused on assembling a squad capable of competing for major titles both in England and across Europe.

The depth of the Premier League leaders has been a key factor behind their nine-point lead at the top of the table as they chase their first league title in 22 years, while also maintaining hopes of completing a historic Quadruple.

However, the Gunners have also shown a willingness to make tough decisions regarding player exits, with former fan favourites like Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah among those who have already departed the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal’s ongoing squad transition has been central to their rise from top-four contenders to serious title favourites under manager Mikel Arteta.

Now, it appears that another player once considered a key part of the club’s long-term plans could be nearing an exit this summer.

Midfielder Fabio Vieira, who joined Arsenal from FC Porto for £30 million in the summer of 2022, has spent the past two seasons away from North London — first on loan with the Portuguese giants in 2024/25 and currently with German side Hamburg.

He has not featured competitively for Arsenal since April 2024. Although his contract runs until the summer of 2027, reports from Sport Witness indicate that “it is clear that Vieira doesn’t have a future with Arsenal.”

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a solid campaign in the Bundesliga, with his recent strike against FC Koln taking his season tally to five goals, complemented by four assists.

Hamburg are believed to have an option to buy Vieira for €20 million (approximately £17 million), but German outlet BILD claims the club are not prepared to meet that valuation.

According to Sport Witness, Arsenal are keen to recover as much of the original transfer fee as possible, and other clubs are expected to join the pursuit of Vieira once the transfer window opens.

Vieira appears to be relishing his time in Germany and spoke to the local newspaper Sachsische Zeitung following the draw with Koln.

“It was a great goal. I knew it was an important move for me to come here and rediscover my true potential,” he said.

“Everyone knows I still have a contract with Arsenal. So let’s wait until the end of the season. Then we’ll discuss things and see what can be done.”
