Kolkata Knight Riders kept their IPL 2026 playoff hopes alive with a tense four-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in Match 65 at Eden Gardens on Wednesday.

The win lifted KKR two spots up the points table, taking them to 13 points from 13 matches and keeping them firmly in contention in the tightly packed mid-table battle.

Chasing a modest target of 148, KKR had a shaky start as Finn Allen departed in the very first over. The pressure mounted further with quick dismissals of Ajinkya Rahane and Cameron Green, leaving the home side struggling early in the chase.

However, Manish Pandey once again proved his value under pressure with a composed knock of 45 off 33 balls. Rather than playing flashy shots, Pandey focused on rotating strike and finding boundaries at crucial moments, ensuring KKR stayed calm despite regular wickets.

Mumbai Indians bowlers kept the contest alive with disciplined spells, especially from Jasprit Bumrah and AM Ghazanfar, who struck important blows during the middle overs. But Pandey’s steady presence helped KKR rebuild through key partnerships, including a valuable stand with Rovman Powell.

Powell added momentum to the chase with an aggressive 40, counterattacking when KKR needed quick runs. Even after Pandey’s dismissal, the hosts had done enough groundwork to remain in control heading into the final stages.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians posted 147 for 8 after recovering from early setbacks. Cameron Green and Saurabh Dubey struck early to put MI under pressure before Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma attempted to stabilise the innings.

A late cameo from Corbin Bosch turned the momentum briefly in Mumbai’s favour. Bosch smashed an unbeaten 32 off just 18 deliveries, including boundaries and sixes in the final over against Kartik Tyagi, helping MI reach a competitive total.

Despite the late flourish, KKR’s disciplined bowling effort and Pandey’s composed innings proved decisive. The chase was eventually sealed by Rinku Singh, who finished the match with a boundary off Will Jacks in the 18.5th over.
