Usually, I shop Amazon’s Memorial Day sales with a home refresh mindset: a new planter for the porch, some outdoor pillows that aren’t faded and musty, maybe a kitchen rug to disguise the never-ending spills and dog hair. But this year, my shopping strategy took a hard pivot.

This is the first summer my kids will be home more than they’ll be at camp. With a tween and a teen, the camp options have thinned out, but my workload hasn’t. Like a lot of working parents, I’m staring down a season of Zoom calls, snack requests and “there’s nothing to eat” declarations all happening simultaneously.
So instead of a home upgrade, my Memorial Day shopping list became a summer survival kit. I’m on the hunt for kitchen gadgets that can entertain my daughters, encourage a little self-sufficiency and ideally produce something edible so I can keep finding deals for you. I added an egg cooker for easy breakfasts, a vegetable chopper to safely encourage my daughters to prep their own snacks, extra sets of my favorite affordable dishes (because something will absolutely get broken), and a slushie maker that will yield both sticky countertops and future core memories.
If all goes according to plan (it won’t, but I’m still hopeful), the kids stay fed, I stay semi-productive and we all make it to August in one emotionally stable piece.
Ninja Slushi Drink Machine, 88-ounce

I used to be a minimalist when it came to kitchen gadgets. But somewhere between years of product testing and raising kids, I’ve fully embraced appliances that make life more fun. And honestly? This might be the item in my shopping cart I’m most excited about. I’ve seen the Ninja Slushi in action, heard rave reviews from people who own it, and I’m already convinced it’s going to be the loudest, stickiest, most joy-filled addition to my kitchen.
Godonlif Candle Warmer Lamp
This candle warmer has been on my list for a minute—it comes in a variety of finishes, and the height is adjustable. While I appreciate a nice candle moment on occasion, it was when a co-worker told me that she also used her candle warmer to soften butter that I was sold on adding this to my kitchen. I’m also hopeful that this will reduce the butter explosions my daughters leave in my microwave.
Dash Deluxe Egg Cooker
We go through a lot of eggs in our house, but I’m typically the only one who gets the glory of washing the egg pan. Wink-wink. With nearly 40,000 positive Amazon reviews, this egg cooker seems like a no-brainer—it can cook a dozen eggs in minutes, and the non-electric parts are dishwasher-safe.
Mueller Pro Vegetable Chopper
Going back to my minimalist tendencies, a vegetable chopper isn’t a kitchen gadget I would typically gravitate towards. While my daughters are both versed in safe knife skills, this chopper will significantly reduce my stress while they’re prepping their own snacks or helping me get dinner ready. Also, when it’s 50% off, why not buy it?
Famiware Milkyway Bowl, 4-Piece

I’ve written before about how much I love these pasta bowls. I’ve already purchased two sets and this will be my third because, as I said above, some will inevitably be broken this summer when my daughters are practicing self-sufficiency in the kitchen. If you need more than pasta bowls, this Famiware Milkyway Plates and Bowls Set is also on sale for just $60.
Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen Stick, SPF 40

Supergoop! is a brand that I love—and this particular product is a true skin saver in my household, so even a minor discount is worth it to me. Plus, when my daughters head off to the town pool, they’ll inevitably “loan” one of these to a friend or simply forget it poolside, so more is better is my motto when it comes to sunscreen sticks.
Wake Up Light Sunrise Alarm Clock

I couldn’t resist just one item exclusively for me. Earlier this year, I asked a handful of cardiologists for their best heart health tips. They all spoke about the benefits of high-quality sleep. And so in that vein, I am leaning into their tips and tricks for a good night’s slumber, which includes a more “natural” wake-up with this sunrise alarm clock, now 41% off.
