Rajasthan Royals' Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the first Indian to hit 50 sixes in an IPL season. After his inning of 93(38) runs against Lucknow, he now has 53 sixes. He is close to Chris Gayle's all-time record of 59 sixes.
Jaipur: Rajasthan Royals' young sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi is breaking records one after the other in the IPL. Vaibhav made another big record in his name by playing a stormy innings in a very important match against Lucknow Super Giants. He has become the first Indian batsman to complete 50 sixes in an IPL season.

In this match held at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Lucknow had set a huge target of 220 runs. In response, Vaibhav once again emerged as a trouble-shooter for Rajasthan. He played an explosive inning of 93 runs with the help of 7 fours and 10 sixes in just 38 balls. Thanks to this magical innings of Vaibhav, Rajasthan Royals kept their playoff hopes alive by winning the match easily.
Earlier, in the match against Delhi Capitals, Vaibhav had broken the record of Abhishek Sharma (42 sixes in 2024) and achieved the title of Indian player who has hit the most sixes in a season. Before entering the match against Lucknow, he had 43 sixes in his name. In the 11th over of the match, he hit two consecutive sixes off fast bowler Mayank Yadav and completed his half-century of sixes this season. So far this season, Vaibhav has hit 53 sixes in 13 matches.

Now Vaibhav has his eyes set on the all-time record of West Indies legend Chris Gayle. The record for hitting most sixes in an IPL season is in the name of Gayle, who hit 59 sixes for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2012. Vaibhav now needs only 7 more sixes to break this record. In yesterday's match, he also left Kolkata's Andre Russell (52 sixes) behind.

There is still one match left against Mumbai Indians in the league stage and if Rajasthan reaches the playoffs, it is almost certain that Gayle's record of 15 years will be broken for Vaibhav. Before this, Vaibhav had also made the record of the Indian player hitting most number of sixes in an innings. He hit 12 sixes in his innings of 103 runs in 37 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad. So far, by scoring 579 runs in 13 matches, he has become the top scorer of the tournament and has also won the Orange Cap. With his performance against Lucknow, he also overtook Travis Head (426 runs) in terms of scoring the most runs in the powerplay in a season.
