In a groundbreaking verdict announced on Tuesday, Sana Yousaf’s murderer Umar Hayat has been sentenced to death.
The punishment was announced on May 19, 2026, almost a year after the influencer was shot dead in her home.
Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka announced the reserved judgment in a local court in Islamabad.
Umar Hayat was also imposed with a fine of PKR 2 million, s per the ruling.

In addition, he was also sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison and given PKR 2.4 million penalty in two other charges he was facing.
The ruling comes after almost a year after Sana, who was a social media influencer, was stalked and shot dead on June 2, 2025.
The 17-year-old had celebrated her birthday just days before the tragedy.
She was shot in the torso which caused intense damage to her heart and lungs.
Earlier on Monday, Umar had retracted his confession and termed the case a “blind murder” as he denied all allegations.
After the verdict was announced, Sana’s mother Farzana said she was “happy to get justice from a Pakistani court”.
