Skoda Kushaq Facelift Review— Intensifying the competition in the mid-size SUV segment in the Indian market, Skoda has launched its popular Kushaq Facelift with new changes. Recently, we did a detailed test drive of the most awaited Monte Carlo variant of this SUV, which gets a new 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The company has updated it not only in looks but also at the technical level, so that it can challenge giants like Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara.

Performance: Amazing new 8-speed automatic gearbox

The biggest change is felt in its gearbox while driving. A new 8-speed automatic gearbox has been included in place of the 6-speed torque converter found in the Kushaq till now. This change completely eliminates the idling of the engine. We tested it in both 1.0 liter TSI and 1.5 liter TSI options. Gear shifting is very smooth in city traffic and during overtaking on the highway it selects the right gear at the right time.

The handling of the car is as usual of the ‘Skoda’ mark. The steering gives precise feedback and the vehicle does not lose balance even at sharp turns. However, the suspension may feel a little stiff on bad roads, but this helps in high-speed stability.

Interior and Features: Premium touch of Monte Carlo

Red and black theme has been used in the Monte Carlo variant, which gives a sporty look to the cabin. This time Skoda has provided a large 10.25-inch infotainment system and a completely digital instrument cluster. Features like ventilated seats and electrically adjustable driver seat now complete the package. In terms of safety, it has been provided with 6 airbags as standard, which makes it reliable in terms of safety.

The starting price of Skoda Kushaq facelift has been kept at Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom), while the price of Monte Carlo 8-speed automatic variant crosses Rs 18 lakh. Its direct competition is with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Volkswagen Taigun. If your priority is driving dynamics and German engineering, then this new incarnation of Kushaq will prove to be a great option.
